Thanks for joining me again for another issue of Unlocking the Power of Chrome. If you haven't noticed, I made a little tweak to my logo since my last post. I felt there was a little too much blank space on the bottom.

So let's get to it... In one of my first posts in this series I talked about URL Shortener. This is a great tool if you want to share an address and you don't want to have to type out the whole thing. The extension can quickly and easily compress your original url into a shortened url. Sometimes that isn't always a good thing though...

Unshorten.link

The extension that I am gonig to cover today is called Unshorten.link. You can access it on the Chrome Webstore here. They also have a webpage that you can access here.

When someone gives you a shortened url it is bascially impossible to tell where that link is going to take you unless you actually click on it. Hopefully someone you know isn't going to give you a link to malicious content, but accidents do happen and in business, it is a frequent occurence to get shortened urls from co-workers and clients/vendors.

When you use the Unshorten.link extension, the shortened link will be automatically expanded, scanned for malware, and any tracking cookies associated with the link will be stripped.

Like many extensions, there is a free and a premium version. The premium version adds preview screenshots, passive filtering, and filtering history. The premium upgrade costs $3.25/month.

If you frequently find yourself getting shortened url's from other users, or you come across them on Steemit, you should give Unshorten.link a look.
