What Christmas Really Is...
In case you didn't know, Christmas wasn't originally a Christian holiday, it was a Pagan holiday that celebrated the Winter Solstice. What is that you ask? It is the time of year when the sun is at it's lowest point. That is when the day is the shortest and the night is the longest, opposite of the summer solstice (in June) when the day is at its longest point and the night is at it's shortest.
However, a very interesting thing happens in the Winter Solstice (December 21st 10:49pm) that doesn't happen in the Summer Solstice, the sun rises and sets at the same time for 3 days (until late night Dec 24th), this is referred to as "when the sun dies." This is the only time of the year when the sun rises and falls at the same time. Then, on Dec 25th the sun starts rising earlier and setting later again, hence the biblical story of Jesus (the son) is the (real) sun "dying for 3 days" and then "rising"... That's right, its a Pagan belief.. Along with most of our holidays (to be honest) but I will go into that more on other holidays... Now, I understand they changed "the sun rising" thing to easter for some reason(??) and instead made xmas "Jesus's bday" (as if they could have known and/or figured out that detail), but yeah, let's pretend like those important dates correlate to one another..
Anyhow, that is the truth behind why we celebrate this holiday... Well that and the biggest consumerism holiday of the year, cuz why not make this important event all about buy shit people don't need, right? LoL.. Why does ever "important holiday" revolve around presents? Huh, its almost like its all a fucking ploy to get people to spend their hard earned money on stupid nonsense, so they can "feel good" about themselves a few days a year..
That is why I spend my xmas day drinking, presentless and happy... Knowledge is Power my friends.. Merry Xmas Steemians!

I didn't know that Winter dies and then resurrects itself on the third day haha like Easter but with Solstice itself. That is pretty deep, pretty symbolic.
In the northern hemisphere we can use as much light as possible this time of year. There is a group called the Kinks. They had a popular albumn called Preservation Act 1. I heard as a little kid. One of the lyrics goes, "just sitting in the midday sun. Just soaking up that carabum. With no particular purpose or reason. Just sitting in the midday sun.
