Colourful, Freezing Sunday Warmed Up By Hot, Delicious Fruity "Punsch" At The Museums Quartier & A List Of Festive Christmas Markets In Vienna

It's getting very, very cold here in Vienna but I am excited because most "Christkindl Markets ", very popular during the advent season, are getting ready to open again, where hot wine and punch will be served. Numerous little stands spread out all over town are always full, to enjoy friendship and a good time.

Everyone has their own favourite stall/booth and used as a meeting place after work or shopping. Vienna transfers into a magical and colourful Christmas Wonderland, radiating a festive glow.

Things get hot in the MuseumsQuartier - even on the coldest of winter days. This is thanks to the special punch creations, live concerts, DJ sounds and all sorts of action in November and December."Winter at MQ", the courtyard turns into an atmospheric winter location. Unusual punch specialties to warm up with are poured in walk-in design objects called MQbis. LED cubes illuminate the MQbis and together with the sparkling trees and artistic light projections on the façades create a unique atmosphere. The "Winter Race" is held in the pond of the MuseumsQuartier - with remote-controlled cars. Every Thursday (16 November - 21 December, from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm), visitors can play Micro-Extreme Bowling, a mix of bowling, billiards and golf. - Source 

Yesterday evening one of our Austrian Steemians @vikisecrets invited us out to taste a few cups for his birthday with a dinner right after at 25th hotel. Danke vielmals! Es war wunderbar!

What is "Punsch" as we spell it in German?

Punsch is a wide assortment of non-alcoholic and alcoholic and quite sweet drink, generally containing fruit or fruit juice. The traditionally Vienna Punsch consists of tea, austrian rum, a little bit of wine and lots of spices like cinnamon and similar spices like you usually use for the Indian chai teas. 

Yesterday I chose the "Waldbeeren Punsch" but there are many other variations using ginger, lemon, apples or oranges. 

What is Gluehwein? 

It's a form of mulled wine, a combination of red wine, tea, spices like cinnamon sticks and gloves, lots of sugar and various alcohol such as brandy and rum. I suggest to be careful because 2 glasses are usually enough to get quite tipsy with red cheeks.
