New Garment: (Part 2)

Beloved of God, I welcome you all to a new week of power. I trust God has been faithful of His promises to you in one special way or the other.

Last Sunday, we started with the 'New Garment' series and we looked at the 'Garment of Holiness' as the foremost garment that is required of us to have if we must enjoy the divine blessings of the new year.

Today, we would be taking briefly the second garment that every christian that desire a new height this new year must have.

2 Garment of Power

According to the later story of Elijah and Elisha, one could see that Elisha did not get hold of the double portion of the power of his master Elijah, until he had served and followed Elijah wherever he went. 2 Kings 2:9-14

When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
“You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.
Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two.
Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

Elisha's life changed after he got hold of his master's garment and mantle. He became clothed with power and could do much more than his master has achieved. He became an authority that others bow to the ground for.

Beloved, living a holy life after the likeness of Christ is the only thing that guarantees us the automatic possession of the power in Christ Jesus. According to Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The later activities of the disciples saw that they went about with powers doing healings, casting out demons, and other miracles.

The garment of power:

• makes one an authority over every forces and vices the devil
• it makes one fearless
• gives protections (Psalm 5:11-12) and healing (Matthew 9:20-22)

Ephesians 6:10-11

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

When we put on the garment of power, we put on the clothing of Christ. We put on the full armour of God.

Prayer Point

• Clothe me with power O' Lord, and make me stronger than evey enemy.

The 'Hope Beckons' series started last year as a way to motivate as many as possible through the Holy Scripture(Bible) with prayers to accompany each series.
