CONTINUED: #8 Official Charity post on Steemit - Pack Your Bags, We're Moving!
Hey dear Steemers!
It's been a week since I posted about the idea of creating a verified Steemit Charity page (and more than a month since I have been thinking about it :)... And now it's ready to take off!!
Great minds think alike... And I found a great team from @cryptovpn account, who have decided to create @steemitcharity - an designated account working exclusively for charitable posts!
I immediately thought that we should work together rather then compete with similar accounts!
So now comes the exciting part:)
Here's how the account is going to work:
- We will receive the stories from Steemit community, which must have only ONE thing in common - the story shall support a charitable or social cause
- The stories will be hand picked and posted from @steemitcharity account
- Each author will be mentioned in the story to help them get more visibility
- All Steem Dollars from the account will be withdrawn and sent to the selected charities after a month from the posting date
- We will be publishing regular reports on how we have distributed the money - similar to the one I have posted myself before
Simple! You want to support a good cause? Send us your post and we will tell the world about it!
Transparent! We won't retain any % or fees for managing this account - all the votes go for the charities that YOU pick!
Diverse! You care about the animal welfare rather than education? No problem, send us your charity of choice and we'll feature it!
Personally, I am hoping to get more support for small to medium size non-profits and even some individuals in need.
Many large foundations have their pools of donations and government support, and Steemit is here to empower people!
And, of course, my project Handmade Charity that I am fundraising for in my posts will also be a part of the @steemitcharity team!

Look for our weekly charity posts and upvote! (If you like the cause, of course:)
Send us info about your favorite charity or the cause you would like to raise money for - we'll review it to include in our next post!
And I'll be the regular contributor to this account with our Handmade Charity news and some more updates from the non-profit sector... But I won't reveal all the secrets at once!:)

Ofcourse we all want to help others in need !! I think this is a great idea and have up voted. But i will say this, that many charities are shadowy affairs, corporate affairs which do not pay tax where much of the money recuperated by the goodwill of giving citizens goes into hedge funds , offshore accounts and the like !! but sure a good step in a good direction so i naturally support !!
I can't disagree - that's why I believe we need a new way of supporting others, and new way of being transparent. And blockchain will bring a change to this industry, as to all the others!
For example, the tool Frank - it gives the donors full transparency on every dollar that the charities spend, and it's built on blockchain!

Well, this to me looks like a scam until it's verified...
We are not goind to feature posts like that - only verified content where we can be sure that we are sending the money to the right cause.
Though I think we can support individuals, not only charity organizations, if the story and the cause are really interesting!
Anyway, for our followers to decide:)
yes but he got 200 dollars without any barrier for this, no verification whatsoever !! this cannot continue or it will have disastrous leakage effects of this system !! I think where there is reasonable suspicion we need to enforce verification, if they cannot fulfill this requirement then the rewards offered should be returned to the parties who voted !!
It's a decentralized system - no one can block anyone from earning money:)
Good point ! .. i just wanted to chime in here with what have "SEEN" first hand. Where i lived in Russellville, Arkansas. There are very many "charities". basically what happens when you call one, they give you a list of the 5 main charities there. if you call the 1st on the list, it is basically 'sorry, we can't help you but here is some numbers to call ... Same 5 on list. call, same, ALL 5 JUST say, sorry, here is a list of numbers.
ONLY the Homeless or VERY poor know this to be true ... Yet, these "Charities" are all well known ... So the Affluent donate, not knowing where THEIR money is really going. Of course the charities hold fundraisers etc. and get a story in the papers occasionally about "How GOOD they are doing for the community" ... In truth it is unconscionable what is going on.
Please Help PEOPLE !!! Not buy MORE Mercedes for these "Non Profits" ...
And yes the Blockchain will be "Proof" of what YOU do, but NOT the charities !! PLEASE remember that these "Charities" have had YEARS of practice doing these things.
With all my heart I hope you folks and folks like you can shine a light on what being "Humane" is truly ALL ABOUT !!!

Indeed the non-profit sector showed many cases of misusing funds, speculating, money laundering etc.... That's why something different is needed in this sector.
I am not aiming to create a large foundation with millions in annual budget, but rather a local organization that is making a change with our own hands!
And as I've already mentioned, we are using the tool frank.money to make our income and spendings 100% transparent
Thank you for responding. I am sorry I didn't make my point in a more concise, understandable manner. I support what you are doing and have 100% faith as to your intentions. My intention or point was, Please pay heed to the "Charities" that you DO give money too, as so many these days are NOT doing what they claim. That statement, again is NOT aimed at your organisation. I am/would be very happy to be associated with your organisation first and foremost 'because' of your transparency.
I suppose I am trying to instill or suggest a 'Need' to try to closely follow and monitor the 'money trail' after your charity contributes TO another 'charity'.

I see what you mean - yes, the target charities have to be clean in clear in their finances.. But our efforts to verify them limit to their public information available. We'll do our best to check every cause we are sending money to, but there's never a 100% way to be sure that they don't misuse the money, that's true. That is also why I don't just repost all charity posts from Steemit, but I read about each charity before posting!

This is a terrifying story but a very good cause to raise money for...
