Q03 — What Do You Think About The SNAX Reward Algorithm?
Now, here is one tough question — What do you think about the SNAX reward algorithm? Why is it so tough?
Well, first, for me it is tough because it is not yet implemented at Steemit, and I don’t have (nor intend to have) Twitter account. At Steemit, we are getting this message only:
I’m a member of SNAX system since May 16th, and as you can see I have many posts since then, but the reward is still 0.
SNAX Whitepaper contain pretty detailed explanation, but since it has a great number of formulas, it must take much more than 24 hours to analyse everything. And then you have to have an example to check if the algorithm is properly implemented. SNAX principles are well formulated, but as in the case of Steemit, only the practical use can make a case for a sensible opinion.
I still cannot justify rewarding people using centralized social media. If cryptocurrencies are the best tool of restoring freedom, taking it back from the monstrous criminal surveillance & data harvesting FAANG conglomerate, then actually SNAX is going against the freedom by allowing sheeple to stay at their “favorite” jailhouse centralized media. And not only that — better “influence” position at centralized media (which can easily be faked) brings more reward! You can imagine fake accounts with fake followers that will be opened in the name of “your defenders” CIA, NSA, FBI… We already are witnesses of a large scale synchronized cross-platform censorship operations (here is one example). Are we going to support with SNAX that platforms?
That is much more important then bitching about a few formulas in the reward algorithm. It’s a question of morality. And survival in the extreme instance. Will anybody listen?
Until we see some rewards for Steemit posts…

Congratulations for your prize !
I thought Snax was to implemented here on 14-May... or perhaps I mis-read? 🤔
You said:
The most prominent example is the "Trending" page, which is usually laden with posts that have been showered with attention from bid-bots. I've seen a simple meme there earn $60 or more, and a photo with one short paragraph earn $300. If a quality post appears in Trending, you can bet it was written by some very well-known Steemian (a top-20 Witness or a developer) and it was hit by all the other top-20 witnesses and developers. That is how one gets into Trending here, whether the post is really "trending" (with everyone talking about it) or not.
Also, the "Reputation" score we have is basically just an indication of the attention given by those with Reps higher than ourselves. I will upvote this post because I think it is good and thoughtful, and it will give you a very few pennies in rewards. However, my upvote won't help your Rep score at all, but if 10 people with a Rep higher than you upvote it, you will see a generous "bump" upwards in your Rep score. So, it can easily be "faked" by rubbing shoulders with the rich-and-famous here.
On May 14 the link between SNAX and Steemit accounts was established, but there is no reward for posting yet.
Yes, @thekittygirl, you are right. But here at least “the influencer” must invest something in return for the influence. And here nobody will trade your data and your privacy.
Thank you for reading my post.
Yes, good point: investment of time or money is required here, thankfully!
Hi, @lighteye, I'm moderator of Snax.
Snax rewards from Steem start today may 23th https://twitter.com/SnaxTeam/status/1129803388923916289. Follow our news on Twitter to keep abreast of all news
Snax does not aim to replace existing social networks. Snax ideas - integration of blockchain, cryptocurrency and Dapps into society by building a fair cross-platform reward system for content authors. Today, people are comfortable writing posts on Twitter and Facebook, ok, we are trying to implement integration with them. Tomorrow other platforms will be popular, including decentralized, we will integrate with them. Our task in this matter is maximum user comfort. You can use those platforms that you consider safe and fair, our task is to give you the opportunity to receive SNAX using the networks you choose.
Let's leave the arbitrariness of politicians and corporations on the conscience of the legislation of specific countries where these violations occur.
You are talking about for receiving rewards Snax by fake accounts. How do you propose to implement it? Cheat using fake accounts (bots)? You yourself say that our https://snax.one/whitepaper.pdf describes a complex mechanism for calculating Attention Rate. You need fake accounts with high Attention Rate for their retweets to have a lot of weight. You can not just take a bot without subscribers, retweets and posts to cheat the rating of another account. Thus we get a vicious circle, you need bots that will promote bots, which will promote bots, etc. The question is why? Does it have any benefit? Isn't it easier to buy SNAX? Of course, you can increase your Attention Rate in an unfair way, but it is much more difficult than simply buying subscribers in any known social network.
My dear @sweetsnax, thanks for your reaction. Increasing your Attention Rate in an unfair way is not difficult at all. The infrastructure already exist on centralized platforms. Just look this fresh example:
https://petapixel.com/2019/04/26/instagram-sues-company-that-sold-likes-views-and-followers/
I’m trying to think about the consequences of the integration of SNAX with centralized platforms. Why wouldn’t we think together? Imagine, for example, a great SNAX success. You think they won’t ditch your crypto to install their own in that case? Does anybody think in that category? It would be wise to think beyond profit, to think about the World that we are creating and unintentional consequences of our work.
Watch for my next posts for other considerations and consequences of helping centralized media to manipulate their users.
@lighteye I do not argue that it is impossible to promote a fake account. The question is whether it will be economically feasible to get Snax Rewards. In addition, as I said, it’s not enough just to get subscribers, they should actively retweet you, their accounts should also be sufficiently promoted to have a high Attention Rate and add weight to your account. If you got several million followers on Instagram, it's easier for you to sell ads)
I think you understand the essence of our project a little differently. We are not the currency of Twitter or other social network. We develop our project, the rewards are distributed by open metrics, so the social network can not stop the payments. Of course, Twitter and other networks with which we plan to integrate can release their currency. You will receive two rewards both on Steem, their own and ours. We simply study the social activity of users on the platform and distribute tokens in appropriate proportions. The logical question is, why do we need it? Snax ideas - integration of blockchain, cryptocurrency and Dapps into society. Of course, we expect that as the number of people using Snax increases, our tokens will acquire a certain value. You can read about Snax economic in this article https://hackernoon.com/snax-social-transaction-and-why-sharing-is-caring-afc32c8f1646
Tell me one thing before we continue, @sweetsnax: Did you ask Jack Dorsey a permission to put a SNAX layer over Twitter?
No. We are not part of Twitter and we use only data that is freely available https://twitter.com/robots.txt. We do not need permission for this.
Neither did “Social Media Series Limited”, which had only consensual relations with its customers that were users of Instagram. They are being sued nevertheless.
Here is the fourth part of my little horror story :)
