Hot or Cold? THIS or THAT?

in #challenge308 years ago

I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. The past summer was extremely HOT and I couldn't wait for the autumn to enjoy some cooler weather. Unfortunately, our autumn was short lived. Sure, we got some beautiful colour from the leaves on the trees but the temperature never really got to where I like it. You know, sweater weather, apple picking, cider sipping cold but not freezing.

Now it's freezing.

We finally got a white Christmas. Lots of snow. Now we are heading toward cold weather alerts.

I'm already done with shovelling snow, taking down the Christmas bric a brac, having my thighs rub together through the layers of clothing and trying to keep my balance on the icy sidewalks. And it's only January!!!!

I prefer temperatures in between hot and cold......like I want what I want when I want it kind. You know?

I am thinking...

it's time to start looking at my Florida pictures.

Here are some of my favourite memories from Florida. Oh, Gulf Side, Lido Beach, Sarasota. Best beaches ever. Best shopping at St. Armand Circle ever. Best lunches, coffee and dinner on the outside patios......ever.

Get your flip flops and sunnies ready!!!

can you hear the water crashing on the shore yet?

how about now?

can you hear the birds?

egret

sandpiper

shelling is way more fun than shovelling

paragliding before lunch

lunch at the Rod & Reel on Anna Maria Island - 20 minute drive - best fish and chips, ever

Sunset time!

Although I do enjoy a winter sunset...

...I prefer this one any day

What do you prefer? Snow or sunny beaches?

all photos except those noted are by @countrygirl

Sunny beaches of course!! But I never experienced real snow weather...I'm curious on that!

Amazing photos, enjoy this ride through Florida and back to Ontario snow!

I'm thinking sunny beaches too! I miss my little place in the sun. Maybe soon...I'll have to go off season though because the dollar is down and it would be very expensive with the exchange. Hopefully, in the fall I'll be able to talk the Mr. into going maybe for Christmas....that would be amazing.

Hope you can go as soon as possible!! Now I got curious, you're not born in Canada? (you mentioned your little place in the sun...)

Yes, Canadian born. But I have been to Florida several times and I pretend it's "my" little place in the sun...it's my beach.....I've visited alone for 2 weeks one time....loved that time.....had my son and husband go with another....a friend another time.....and me alone for a few days here and there. I'm feeling the NEED to go again for some "me" time. Maybe if I make enough "steem" I'll be able to do this journey again.

Hope you can make this wish come true!! If Steem reaches the $1 mark....

Or when chickens grow teeth!! ;)

I sincerely hope Steem can reach that amount !!

Our climates are fairly similar. This past fall was way too warm. We got over 90 degrees one day in mid-October! It was awful. And we had several days in the 80's when daytime highs are normally in the 60's. I feel like we got cheated out of the chilly fall weather this year. Winter has been fairly mild here in Iowa so far. Not much snow. A few days of frigid temps now and then.

I have been to Florida three times. I definitely think the Gulf coast is much prettier than the Atlantic.

Great post! Stay warm.

Yes....it's so cold out today it catches my breath. I was going to take our grandkids skating but no way, maybe an indoor rink but not the pretty outdoor rink down the street - I really wanted to get some photos of it - it's decorated with pretty lights.
The Gulf side.....yes....it's the best....I like quiet and that's where you get it.

I miss deep fluffy snow. Happy you got some though!!

Nice photos.

You do?? Where you from? Somewhere warm for sure! I don't mind the snow - it's the freeze so cold that it's hard to breath kind of weather.......brrrrr

have to walk backwards. lol

oh yes or cover my face with my fancy new buff....I thought China got snow and that the weather there was similar to here. What do I know....???

well. It's a big country. some of it is always hot and tropical like Hong Kong and other places have similar winters to Thunder Bay.

I'm very comparable to you on the meridian lines but having coastline on 3 sides makes winters have just a little snow and really brutal icy wind. They shut down the highways if there's even an inch of snow. lol

That's like the snowfall BC got recently....they have TWO sand trucks...for Vancouver..whaaat? You should have seen the news with the transport trucks going sideways.....I certainly would not want to be driving the Sea to Sky on those days, that's for sure.
I'm right in between Lake Ontario and Erie so I know about the wind....and lake effect snow.
Have a good evening @solarguy...I'm off to la la land now.

Given the choice, sunny and warm for sure. But I find that the older I get the more I want to avoid both extreme heat and frigid cold. But the cold, and the way it can literally take your breath away, seems more life threatening to me. Going to FLA for a few days later this month, can't wait!!! And Happy 2017 @countrygirl.

Jealous!!!! Can't wait to see your photos and hear all about it. Where to in Florida? Gulf or Ocean?
I'm with you re the extremes. I'm "older" as well.....we've been married 42 years so that'll give you an idea :)
Happy 2017 to you as well!

We don't get real snow here. but sometimes Ii wish we would - like when I'm inside next to the gas heater.

At least you had summer. Our summer is still stuck at customs somewhere. they tell us it's coming, but they can't say when... 2018, 2020 maybe...

I loved Ontario by the way ;-)

Stuck at customs....must be in Vancouver. Their customs is tough. Maybe the Farmer's Almanac can help you out.

Ontario is a beautiful place to live - a lot of diversity in people and in places to visit.

I love snow and frost. I have to go to penguins!

I've never seen a penguin in person. Do you have them where you live?

There is definite beauty to be had in all four of our awesome seasons and hot or cold climates!

That's what my husband I were talking about tonight....it's nice to have that variety.

Since you're in Canada too, I suggest picking up a winter sport (like SNOWBOARDING!). After discovering the fun winter sports, winter didn't feel so long anymore, and now I'm actually HAPPY when it snows a bunch!

Oh good idea...maybe I'll try that one day!

Yes, yes! Come to Florida! What a hoot if we met in real life on the beach sipping our favorite beverages. Woman, I would even shave my legs for you. LOL
Yesterday we FINALLY got a little rain, but it was nearly 90! Today barely got above 75 and I've got my windows open for some cool air. I hope you make it down here and leave that heavy, wet, white stuff behind!

Yes, I think I NEED to as well....it's just a matter of getting the MR onto a plane...I hate driving down there....it takes too long. But definitely if we get there we'll meet for lunch....all day :)
