Last June 15, 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the century happened in the Philippines. It started with feeling earthquakes in mid-March and small explosions on 2nd of April which covered the local villages with ash. MOUNT PINATUBO erupted sending massive volcanic ash through the entire Philippines. The eruption lasted for nine hours and caused numerous large earthquakes due to the collapse of the summit of Mount Pinatubo and the creation of a caldera.I was 9 years old then when it happened. I remember enjoying the greyish ash falling for days in our hometown. For me, it was like a snowing which Philippines doesn't have because it is a tropical country.
26 years today, you can still see the aftermath of the eruption. Some riverbanks in Pampanga are still covered with gray powder-like ash which is a reminder how destructive Mount Pinatubo was.
This beautiful lake crate was formed during its eruption in 1991 and became a tourist attraction.
