It’s my third #caturday on SteemIt and, after introducing you to beautiful Fuffolino and beloved Fuffolina, today I want to talk about how different they are when it comes to cuddles and general displays of affection. Of course, we use highly specific Italian technical terms for these circumstances, which I’m hard pressed to translate. Think of terms such as “fuffles”, “cuddle-fuffle”, “fuffling”, etc.
As usual, feel free to skip the Italian translation, unless you want to check out the original terms for “cuddling with the Fuffolini”.

È il mio terzo #caturday su SteemIt e, dopo avervi presentato gli splendidi e adorati Fuffolino e Fuffolina, oggi voglio parlarvi di quanto sono diversi per quanto riguarda coccole e generiche dimostrazioni di affetto. Va da sé che in italiano i termini tecnici sono variazioni a piacere sul tema del “fuffolo”: “fuffole”, “fuffolare”, “fuffolame”, ecc. Termini che, ovviamente, non saprei tradurre in inglese.

Obviously, all pets are super affectionate when it comes to food and treats, they’re little mercenaries like that. When I took this photo, they were eating dry food that I’d just put out, but as soon as I got near them they made way for me and started bumping up against my legs, purring. No, not because they were recognizing me as Mama Cat and making way for me to share the meal. Because they were hoping I’d open a bag of meat and gravy.
Which is usually quite a feat as they dive into that bowl head in as soon as the first piece of meat hits it, making it very difficult to get all the food in the actual bowl (and not on their head).

Ovviamente, tutti gli animali domestici sono affettuosi quando si tratta di mangiare, in questo sono dei piccoli mercenari. Quando ho scattato questa foto stavano mangiando dei crocchini che avevo appena messo nelle ciotole, ma non appena mi sono avvicinata mi hanno fatto largo ed hanno iniziato a girarmi attorno alle gambe, facendo le fusa. No, non perché mi riconoscevano come Mamma Gatta e mi stavano facendo posto per condividere il pasto. Solo perché speravano aprissi una bustina di umido.
Il che è di per sé un’impresa, considerato che in genere si buttano nella ciotola a capofitto non appena ci cade il primo pezzettino di carne, rendendo assai difficile svuotare tutta la bustina nella ciotola (e non sulle loro testoline).

One of the main differences between my boyfriend and I is that he’s the kind of person that once he’s decided to cuddle you will find you, pick you up, and get down to it, no matter what. On the other hand, I’m the kind of person that will be up for cuddling almost anytime and therefore, rather than constantly bother everyone else, will just wait for others to come cuddle and happily comply.
This makes us rather compatible, since I know he’ll come cuddle when he wants to and he knows I’ll be up to it anyways (although I had to explain that to him, at first, since he thought I wasn’t that much into him).

This also makes Fuffolino the ideal cat for him and me perfectly content with Fuffolina.

Una delle principali differenze tra mio moroso e me é che lui è il tipo di persona che, una volta deciso di coccolarti, ti troverà, ti afferrerà e ci darà dentro alla grande, che tu lo voglia o meno. Io, invece, sono il tipo di persona che, essendo praticamente sempre in vena di coccole, piuttosto che rompere continuamente le scatole agli altri, aspetta che siano gli altri a proporsi per poi coccolare con partecipazione.
Questo ci rende piuttosto compatibili, visto che io so che verrà a coccolarmi quando ne avrà voglia e lui sa che mi troverà in ogni caso ben disposta (anche se all’inizio ho dovuto spiegarglielo, perché pensava invece che non fossi particolarmente interessata).

Questo rende, altresì, Fuffolino il suo gatto ideale e me perfettamente soddisfatta di Fuffolina.

Fuffolino is more of a puppet than an actual cat. He’ll strut around, ask to be let out, eat voraciously, and rub himself all over your legs, like any other cat, but his most prominent quality is that, unless he feels like playing “it”, he’ll let you pick him up whenever and wherever and he’ll be purring with gusto at the first cuddle, playing along for as long as you’ll want. As a result, he’ll often get at least 5-10 minutes of cuddles when Andrea comes back from work, before I can even get one single kiss... “Shush, I’m fuffling my prince”, is all I get!

Fuffolino è più pupazzo che gatto. Si pavoneggia, chiede di uscire, mangia voracemente e si struscia sulle gambe come un qualsiasi altro gatto, ma la sua qualità principale è che, a meno che non sia in vena di giocare ad acchiapparella, si lascia sollevare in qualsivoglia modo e momento, fa ampie e soddisfacenti fusa sin dal primo grattino e si lascia coccolare beato fintanto che ne hai voglia. Il risultato è che spesso si becca almeno 5-10 minuti di coccole ogni volta che Andrea torna a casa e prima ancora che io abbia ottenuto anche solo un bacio... “Zitta, sto fuffolando il principe”, è tutto ciò che riesco ad ottenere.

Fuffolina is more of a regular cat. She doesn’t exactly complain when she’s picked up for fluffles she didn’t ask for, but if she’s not up to it she will try to get away, although not too forcibly. And she might not purr if you don’t pet her right. On the other hand, she’ll come look for you when she’s actually up for cuddles and make herself comfortable against your legs, lap, arms or hands, even resorting to nibbling on your phone if she thinks SteemIt is getting too much of your attention away from her. If your hand is there but not petting enough, she might make up for it by licking it all over, which Google tells me is a sign of affection (and apparently also a way for cats to judge your mood by “tasting” the hormones you are releasing).
The phone-nibbling and the insistent requests for cuddles are also a reason why it’s harder to take photos of her in these moments, since she wouldn’t stay put and she’ll get too close to the camera.

Fuffolina è più gatto, in questo senso. Non è che si lamenti in modo particolare quando la si prende in braccio per delle fuffole che non ha chiesto, ma se non è in vena cerca comunque di divincolarsi, anche se non con eccessiva convinzione. E potrebbe addirittura non fare le fusa se non fuffolata in maniera adeguata. In compenso, ti viene a cercare quando è effettivamente in vena di coccole, e si mette comoda contro le tue gambe, braccia, mani o in grembo, arrivando persino a smangiucchiarti il telefono, se pensa che SteemIt stia distogliendo troppa attenzione da lei. Se la mano è nel posto giusto ma non sta coccolando abbastanza, potrebbe anche compensare leccandotela tutta, che Google mi informa essere un segno di affetto (ed anche un modo in cui i gatti verificano il nostro umore, “assaggiando” gli ormoni che rilasciamo).
Lo smangiucchiamento del telefono e le costanti richieste di coccole sono uno dei motivi per cui è tanto difficile fotografarla, in questi momenti, perché si muove di continuo e si avvicina troppo alla fotocamera.

I love it when either cat comes looking for cuddles, because worshipping them as I do I consider any attention given to me by a feline to be a great compliment.
Andrea, of course, has no understanding of the concept of “waiting” for anything, let alone cat approval. So he’ll just grab them when he feels like it and I’m happy that at least one of them appreciates it unconditionally.

Amo quando i gatti vengono a farsi coccolare perché, adorandoli, considero ogni attenzione riservatami da un felino come un grande complimento.
Andrea, ovviamente, non ha alcuna dimestichezza con il concetto di “attesa” relativamente a nulla, figurarsi per l’approvazione di un gatto. Quindi li cattura quando ne ha voglia e sono contenta che almeno uno dei due apprezzi la cosa senza riserve.
