The tale of the kittens
I help out a little with the local people who trap and feed feral cats and I got a call from someone who was too afraid to drive to the adress given because she was hijacked in the area at the beginning of the year. I agreed to meet her there so that she would feel safer.
The story was that a stray cat had given birth to 4 kittens in somebody's roof about 5 weeks previously and now the mother cat was extremely sick, with vomiting and diarrhoea. I got there and found that the mother cat had died. The people who had her claimed that she had been fine up until that morning but then gotten ill and died a few hours later. It seemed strange and the rescuer insisted on taking the orphaned kittens, fearing that the mother had died of Panleukopenia.
At that point, things turned a little weird: the woman who had the kittens started telling us, total strangers, that her husband is abusing her. I wonder if it was a way of saying that the husband had poisoned the mother cat or what. We suggested that she get a protection order against him and contact an organization that helps women in her situation.
The kittens are in the rescuer's care and doing fine, which makes me think that perhaps mom-cat was poisoned. Strange world we live in.
I’m glad you rescued the kittens. It does sound like poor mummy cat might have met her end in terrible way. :(
To add to all that, you got involved in a private domestic matter. That’s never fun. You did good nonetheless.

Very bad story. Some people are ready to help homeless animals, while others are killing them.
Apparently the man did not want the cat to bring kittens. He probably didn’t like animals and therefore dealt with her so cruelly.
Good thing you took their cute little animals yourself.
It seems to me that he would also have cruelly acted with these crumbs of kitten

Well, thank you for helping with the kittens! It always makes me sad to hear of this stories where cats and dogs die under "mysterious circumstances" and we are left to guess what happened to the parent animal of a litter. I'm glad there are people like you out there who care!
