Birthing Complications I

in #cats5 years ago

The birth of a new litter is an exciting moments that both breeder and queen have been preparing for since their journey together started. With much preparation and care, a successful birth will see the queen with her new kittens ready for the first kittening stages. However, birthing doesn’t always go according to plan and an inexperienced mother may face some difficulty along the way. It’s not often easy to predict and prevent these situations and the best course of action to be aware and on hand to support and remedy the complications that arise. Being prepared, closely monitoring the situation and having the needed tools on hand to help are essential to a successful birth sequence.

When a kitten is born, the orientation of its body may differ. It’s common for kittens to be born in reverse where their back legs exiting the womb first. However, there are situations where the kitten will have its rear appear first and not its legs. This is referred to as a breech birth position and can be an issue.
