After Birth Care Continued III

in #cats6 years ago

Supporting the mother through various means is essential and a great deal of consideration goes into providing a tailored diet that can support the regular feedings that will take place. The meals will be ingested by the mother and nutrients passed on to her kittens. There are times however where the queen will suffer from a lack of milk and begin to dry up if not nourished correctly.

Providing whole foods that are rich in nutrients while keeping hydrated is important. There are times where the kittens will not be able to suckle properly and hormonal treatments will need to be sought to provide a sufficient weaning period. Failing this, the breeder may need to intervene physically and hand feed the kittens every couple of hours to provide a viable substitute to the mother’s milk. If a breeder is not well versed in hand feeding it will be worth consulting a vet to learn about the best practices.
