Curator Cat on Sunday: Best of Friends and the Value of Hugs

in #cats6 years ago

Greetings Steemit Felines and Humans!

Slightly different approach today. This post has multiple sources of inspiration; at first, I was going to do another post in my "cats we've known" series, but then I came across @phoenixwren's "Hug Contest" post from a few days ago (check it out, you still have a couple of days to enter!), and then I was reminded again by visiting @lyndsaybowes' blog where she posted this marvelous post filled with adorable kittens... at which point I knew precisely which "cats we've known" I wanted to feature!

This is Orange and Kramer:

Cat
Orange and Kramer, sometime in 2012

Whereas they are no longer with us, they were probably as close to best friends and soul mates as you can get with cats.

Cats
Kramer comforst Orange as a kitten

Kramer was already close to being a "senior citizen cat" when Orange joined us as a 10-week old kitten. However, he immediately took the little guy under his wing, and they were pretty much inseparable.

They fact that they were both male cats made no difference.

Kramer would always groom Orange when he was a kitten; as Orange became a fully grown cat, they were always cuddled up together, and would groom each other.

And much of the time, they were definitely "hugging" in the cat sense of the word.

Sadly, Orange passed away suddenly from an acute urinary tract infection not even all the vet's resources and several thousand dollars could do anything about... in just 48 hours he went from seemingly healthy to gone.

He was only four years old

Kramer lived on to about 15 years of age — about another year — but was never quite the same after his best friend had departed.

So, I'll finish by suggesting that you hug those you love, while you can... because life is surprisingly fragile and uncertain!

Hope you have had a beautiful weekend!

This is Butterscotch and Salem, I was Butter's human and my brother was Salem's, and:IMG_20180729_182521.jpg
This is Deidre and Boogala, I was Deidre's human and my best friend and roommate was Boogie's.
They're all over the bridge now, and I love and miss them all. 💙
The closest Maggie and Yuan have ever gotten to snuggling was a couple of weeks ago, they actually touched butts when Maggie was lying down and Yuan settled in at the water dish behind her and NOBODY HISSED. 😹

Very sweet @phoenixwren! I guess it just goes to show that cats aren't that different from humans; some just "work" together, and some do not.

=^..^=

Awe..they are adorable photos @curatorcat!! Sorry they didn't have more time together. That is a very good suggestion and I will give my pets extra extra hugs today!! ❤

Thanks @deerjay; and I'm sure your furry friends will appreciate it... besides, hugging furry friends is good for the mind and spirit!

=^..^=

You're welcome @curatorcat! That is so true!!

Aw, they look so sweet together. That is a shame that Orange died so young and I can just imagine how much Kramer missed him. : (
I had a large dog and then rescued a kitten. They were glued to each other. Maverick (the kitten) groomed the dog's face every single day and Maverick slept cuddled up to the dog's chest and they slept together, every day of their lives. It was a precious sight to see. : )

That's a beautiful story @whatisnew!

It's easy to attribute "human feelings" to animals, but there was little doubt that Kramer missed his friend.

AWWW! Great story Curator Cat. My wife's cat Fitz past away a year ago from a blood parasite we think he got from fleas. He was perfectly fine and then in 4 days was gone. We took him to the Vet twice and on the 2nd visit they said if he makes it through the night bring him back in the morning for a blood transfusion. At 5am he passed away. Had he only been strong enough to live a few more hours that we could of gotten him to the Vets office in time. They didn't open till 8am. sigh

Very sad when one of our furry friends move on... cats can be remarkably "fragile," even though they do seem to have nine lives.

=^..^=

Aw! It's heartbreaking when friends lose each other

We've had many many cats over the years... losing Orange so young was heartbreaking; but the tough part was watching Kramer wander aimlessly around the house for months, occasionally meowing, clearly looking for his friend.

=^..^=

What a beautiful but also heartbreaking story. That is so amazing for two male cats to act like that towards eachother. The photos of them are gorgeous.

They had a special and very unusual bond; never seen anything like it, either. Kramer just took it upon himself to be the kitten's "guardian/play uncle" from day one, and they bonded.

=^..^=

Thank you @bananamemos; they really were.

=^..^=

Ooh my goodness, what a beautiful duo...I'm so sorry that they are no longer with you :'( :'(

They were very much like an "old married couple;" occasionally they would fly through the house during "crazy kitty hour" (usually 11pm), occasionally they'd play-fight, but they pretty much did everything together.

I miss them, but I know they had good lives, even if Orange's was very short.

=^..^=

Awww...yeah...crazy kitty hour, I know it well and refer to it as The Stampede lolol <3 <3
