Let's visit Auto Expo India 2018 Motorshow!

in #cars7 years ago (edited)

Living in the capital of a country comes with a lot of perks. It has its downsides too but let's keep that for another post. One of the biggest perk for a car enthusiast like me is an event called Auto Expo - The Motorshow.

It happens every two years and is Asia's largest and World's second largest motor show. This is usually organised in India Exposition Mart in Noida, Uttar Pradesh which happens to be close to Delhi.

@yesaye and I went to the venue together. We were supposed to be joined by @firepower, @varunpinto, @shenoy, @aishwarya, @komal and @sauravrungta at the venue but they couldn't make it due to some reason.

Event tickets.

It was a struggle to get there because it's hard to trust the buses in UP. We had to wait a lot and even take a metro to another place to catch a bus. Once we caught it, we realised the bus was slow af and we wont be making it on time. Finally we ended up reaching the venue 45 minutes late.

We tried the JK Tyre Off Road Experience. They take you on an SUV on various offroad patches and steep inclines. It was not really as cool as I expected it to be but worth the experience. I've clicked some pictures of the things that I found interesting and I'll showcase them here.

1. Toyota FCV Plus:

Toyota developed a hydrogen powered Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) that runs on clean fuel. When it is not being used as a means of transport, it can be used as a stable source of power for homes. Interesting concept. They have produced a few of these and will produce more fuel cell cars in the future. You can read more about it here.

That's how the interior looks like.

It'll be a long time before we start seeing them on our roads. Here's a video that shows how this functions.

2. Tata 45X:

This is by far the best looking hatchback model designed by Tata. They will be making production models based on this concept. Hope the production model looks as cool when it rolls out. There was another H5X model which was looking more like a production model. You can check it out here.

3. Hot Wheels had their own stall at the expo!

Who remembers Hot Wheels? I remember collecting Hot Wheels scale models and playing Hot Wheels games on my computer as a child. It was really cool to see a Hot Wheels stall at the expo. They had two modified cars in their stall.

While one is based on Contessa Classic, the other is based on the modern Honda Accord. These were modded to look like the models that Hot Wheels makes. Hot Wheels was celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. This could be the reason for the presence in Auto Expo.

4. DC TCA

While most car manufacturers were focused on producing electric cars, DC went ahead and built a sports car with a 3.8L V6 engine producing 360 bhp of power. This car looks better than the previous sports car they built which was called "Avanti"and will also be the fastest sports car built in India.

5. TAMO RaceMo

TAMO stands for Tata Motors in short. Sounds stupid IMO. RaceMo is the car name. It is an electric car that produces 200 hp and has a range of 350 kms approx on a full charge. Design wise, it's decent and pretty small. I'm not really a fan of the looks. The design is futuristic.

6. Mahindra Thar Wanderlust

There was this pimped up edition of Mahindra Thar. With huge off road tyres, DRLs, winch and a massive bumper, it looks a lot better than the stock version. Mahindra will modify the existing Thar into Wanderlust model for Rs. 13 Lakhs. (20,635 USD) That's too much money for modification.

You can find pictures from various angles of this vehicle at Rushlane.

7. Hyundai

Hyundai had a hall all for themselves. They showcased some same boring cars that are already on Indian streets but with a small facelift. They also showcased some rally cars, hybrids, and electric car chassis. Below are some pictures.

These robots you see in the picture above were dancing to some bollywood songs. It was scary looking at them @yesaye and I were just imagining them being AI and actually enjoying some bollywood tunes. They were waving Hyundai flags. That sight was creepy for the obvious reasons.

8.  Renault

Renault had some cool looking concept cars and some miniature models of spacecrafts? Take a look yourself and decide!

Zoe E Sport is an electric sporty hatchback that can do 0-100 in 3.2 sec.

They also showcased a cross section of an electric car named Renault Zoe EV.

9. Even formula cars were showcased by various manufacturers like Mercedes, MRF tyres and Renault.

Enough with the cars, let's check out some bikes now.

10. KTM ERCR Concept Model by a Designing School

This looks very much like a lovechild of KTM RC390 and a bull, doesn't it?

11. Yamaha MOTOROiD

This was one of the coolest looking bikes at the event. It was just kept in the side and there was nothing mentioned. Those bottles looked like it had nitrous in them. When I was writing this post is when I stumbled upon it on the net. It is a future bike Yamaha is developing and is loaded with Artificial Intelligence that recognizes its owner and approaches him. It allows man and machine to become one.

You should definitely watch this cool video if you wanna know more about it.

12. Hero Xpulse 200

This is the most awaited bike by the Indian motorcycling community. Hero had launched Impulse earlier but it was under powered with it's 150 cc mill. Though Hero is very late to the party of launching the 200cc version of Impulse, I'm sure this will be successful as there are not many bikes in adventure category currently in India.

13. Aprilia RS 150

Aprilia RS 150 will be coming soon and will give a tough competition to Yamaha R15. Aprilia brand is quite popular among the youth in India. this will have a lot of young buyers. It looks exactly like it's elder sibling RSV4.

14. Emflux One

It is the fastest electric superbike India has ever built. It's got all the high tech equipments of a litre class bike. It can attain a top speed of 200 kmph and it does 0-100 kmph in 3 seconds.

15. Menza Lucat

This is one of the most affordable electric bikes in India. It produces a power of 24 hp and a torque of 60Nm. It gives a range of 100 kms in city and 150 kms on the highway in one full charge.

16. Honda RC213V MotoGP Race bike ridden by 2017 Moto GP champion Marc Marquez

Kept the best for last.

Motorhomes

17. Force Finetza

This is a luxury motorhome. I loved the way it looks and the interior was pretty classy. I couldn't click more pictures of it though. But you can check out more pics here.
