Abarth 595 Turismo Review & Full Road Test

in #cars7 years ago (edited)

Last week we took delivery of the Abarth 595 Turismo, the convertible hot hatch based on the Fiat 500C. The Planet Auto team covered over 1000 miles in a week putting the car to the test. Hot hatches are close to all our our hearts with Ben owning a MK2 Golf and Michael owning a Fiesta Eco Boost. The 595 Turismo is the hottest and most raw modern hot hatch on the market, it is able to encapsulate classic Italian styling along with there racing heritage, all in a car that costs less than £22,000!

The review starts with us driving up from the Midlands up to the Lake District where we conducted our video review, we tackled everything from the twisty back roads to snow covered motorways. We then take a look at the cars styling, interior quality, what it's like to drive, to bring you our verdict and if this is the car for you.

If you are a driver this is the car for you!

I truly think it's lagging behind leaders such as ST and Cooper S. I couldn't find the seating position to suit myself, car itself had center of gravity too high, interior being too similar to standard 500 and didn't suit premium pricing. Gearbox lacked feel and chassis lacked bond with the car body. didn't like it that much, you seem to be more positive in your review, nice to have different opinions!

Strange, both Michael and I thought the gearbox was phenomenal, tight, short throw very easy to shift, chassis seemed to flex enough to allow feel whilst sliding round a corner with a clutch dip. The only thing that took time to get use to was the seat and its height. Do you mean you think it was too high and affected handling? Dropping a gear and flooring it gave you a bit of torque steer, this reminded me greatly of my Mk2 Golf 16V, throwing it into corners. Alot of people have your views especially on the 124 Abarth, be interesting to try, thank you.

What a cool little car. I did not expect this to be a 4 seater from the initial impression of the outside. Really surprised to hear the way it roared as well!

It really is and it's like a Tardis inside, this car can really perform and the tone of the exhaust is immense.

It looks great to drive under sunny sky... As you say "Italian Style".. Upvoted and followed happily... Hugs from Spain.

It's the perfect pocket rocket, and summer car, love it.

Yes... it looks great for summer or people who lives all seasons as a summer like us... :)

I hope it goes as it looks waiting for a detailed review!

This is the video review, enjoy.

Nice review and a really nice car the Fiat, i must try to get it for a test drive but tell me if you could choose it instead of a Mini Cooper! I think right now on the Market these little great cars are playing in a special league or you could also put there the Fiesta ST and the VW Polo GTI?

It's my favourite in looks and sound over all of those, for driving not yet driven the new Polo, ST or Mini, they're on the list though. I do liken it to a 90s hothatch, heavy steering and instant acceleration, love it.
