2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
Just to complete my post about the last Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (June 24th) with the new record set by Romain Dumas, French racing driver, with the Volkswagen I.D R Pikes Peak, a fully electric car capable of producing 500 kw (equivalent 670 hp). He beated the all-time record set by Sébastien Loeb in 2013 with his Peugeot 208 T16 (8 min 13 sec 878) by more than 16 seconds.
History of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was founded by Spencer Penrose, American businessman in 1916 on the 12.42 mile (about 20 km) Pikes Peak Highway with 156 turns. The race start begins at 1,440 m to finish at 2,862m at the mountain's summit. The first record was set by Rea Lentz on Romano Special (125 hp).

Since April, with the first tries on circuit, Volkswagen wanted to break the unlimited record of this race or at least beat the electric record detained by Rhys Millen with his e0 PP100 in 8 min 57 sec 118. It's done...
Technical specification
The fully electric I.D. R Pikes Peak has two electric motors delivering an equivalent of 680 ch (or 500 kw). The 43-kWh battery powered the all-wheel drive car that can reach the 100 kmh in just 2.25 seconds. The weight with the pilot is only of 1100 kg.
Romain Dumas beated the record in 7 min 57 sec 148.
