1993 Vector Avtech WX-3R Roadster
Also in January during its Arizona's sale, RM Sotheby's will auction two prototypes by Vector :
- Avtech WX-3R Roadster
- Avtech WX-3.
But today, we will focus on this Vector Avtech WX-3R Roadster with an expected price of $US 500,000.
History of the Vector Avtech WX-3
Behind Vector Aeromotive Corporation, there is man, Jerry Wiegert who wanted after his graduation of the California’s Art Center College of Design to create a supercar with European influence and West Coast design. In 70's, he conceived his first prototype, the W2 in a LA's warehouse and presented in LA Auto Show in 1976.
Some years after, he built the Vector W8 with 625-hp V-8 engine. The model has been sold more than 20 examples with a price tag $US 455,000 (including one to André Agassi - photo in the Bonus Section). With this capital, Wiegert started to work on its replacement the WX-3. The model was presented in 1992 at the Geneva Motor Show and the next year, the WX-3R roadster painted in Amethyst purple.
But the company was bought by the Indonesian firm Megatech and Wiegert lost control of his company. The WX-3 was never produced...
Specification
The WX-3R Roadster has an 6.0 liter Rodeck twin-turbo V-8 engine with a modified GM Turbo-Hydramatic 425 transmission. The car can reach the 320 kmh... One of the fastest roadsters ever built.
