1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Coupé
Two months ago, I wrote a post the cabriolet version with a coachwork by Pinin Farina (see some pics on the Bonus Section). Today, it's about this splendid 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Coupé with a coachwork by Touring that will be auctioned, next month, during the RM Sotheby's Villa Erba Sale.
History of the Alfa Romeo 6C
The first Alfa Romeo 6C was presented during the Salone dell' Automobile di Milano in 1925 with a design by Vittorio Jano in order to replace the RL and RM models. The production began two years later until 1952 with 1,487 cc in-line six cylinder engine ((referred to 6C).
It's only in 1938 that the 2500 version was introduced with a 2,443 cc engine. But, the destruction of the Alfa Romeo's Portello factory during World War II stopped the production that will resume with the model 6C 2500 Freccia d'Oro (Golden Arrow, I like this name)in 1946. The coachwork were made essentially by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, Italian company founded in Milan en 1925, well known for its superleggera design. This car was one of the most expensive of its time and made an apparition in the movie The Godfather (1972).
Specification
With the 2,443cc DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport produces 110 hp at 4,800 rpm and can reach 165 kmh. Only 413 Coupés were built.
Beautiful car in this color dark green over a light grey interior with a nice central instruments. Classic Italian car...
