History of the Ferrari 250 GTO

The Ferrari 250 GTO was a Grand Tourer produced between 1962 and 1965 for the FIA's Group 3 Grand Touring Car category. Only 36 250 GTO have been built during this period in two series : 33 Series I from 1962 to 1963 and 3 for the Series II for the year 1964.

The 250 GTO was one of the most successful racing cars that Ferrari ever built with nearly 300 races won worldwide. The development was on the supervision of Giotto Bizzarrini but after a little dispute with Enzo Ferrari, all the team was fired. With the help of Scaglietti, a new team headed by Mauro Forghieri, best known for his work for the Scuderia, finished the development.
