1958 BMW 507
In December, during the Bond Street Sale, Bonhams will auction this stunning 1958 BMW 507 for about £ 2,100,000.
Generally, I'm not a huge fan of BMW, but this model is gorgeous...
History of BMW 507
In 50's in United States, Max Hoffman, importer of luxuous cars from Europe convinced BMW to produce a rival car to the Mercedes 300 SL Roadster with the help of Count Albrecht von Goertz, German industrial designer.
The BMW 507's prototype was presented with success in 1955 at the Frankfurt Auto Show but its reception in the US market was disappointing because it was too expensive. Max Hoffman wanted a price tap at $5,000 but the price was $9,000 more than the double of Ford Thunderbird or Chevrolet Corvette.
The roadster was produced by BMW between 1956 and 1959 for the US market. Initially, BMW wanted to exported to US 1,000 examples by year but only 252 cars were built.
Specification
The engine of the 507 comes from the BMW 502, a 3.2-litre V8 engine, it's BMW's first V8 engine and in production until the M60 in 1992. It delivers 150 hp for a top speed around 250 kmh and 11 seconds to reach 100 kmh.
