In Monaco, in two weeks (May 12th), this piece of art & history 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione 'Tour de France' will be heading to auction thought RM Sotheby's for about $8,500,000.

Ferrari race car by excellence, this 250 GT berlinetta was drived by Wolfgang Seidel and finished 2nd overrall at the 1958 Grand Prix of Spa-Francorchamps and 4th at the 1958 12 Hours of Reims.

History of the 250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France

The Ferrari 250 GT berlinetta got its nickname thanks to its domination on the Tour de France rally between 1956 and 1959. The berlinetta (short-wheelbase) 'Tour de France' was produced at only 72 examples, and this 1957 model is one the 17 examples with this Scaglietti coachwork style (3 louvers and covered headlights).

This 250 GT was sold to Wolfgang Seidel, German racing driver The Golden Bear for the Scuderia Ferrari in 1958 with Wolfgang von Trips. Seidel drived this car in 22 races for 11 victories, and many great results :

2nd overall at the Grand Prix of Spa-Francorchamps in May 1958,
4th overall at the 12 Hours of Reims in July 1958,
3rd in class at the Grand Prix de Paris at Linas-Montlhery in May 1959,
5th overall at the Gran Premio della Lotteria in Monza in June 1959,
4th overall (and 1st in class) at the Coupe de Paris at Linas-Montlhery in September 1959.

Technical Specification

The Ferrari 250 GT berlinetta has an engine equipped with competition camshafts tipo 130 and high-compression pistons delivering 258.2 hp at 7.200 rpm. The transmission was also a competition ribbed gearbox.

Beautiful restoration, the body was fitted with sliding windows, and a third windshield wiper was mounted, later replaced by a Perspex hood deflector, and finished in dark red paint with a beige leather interior.
