What’s It Like To Smoke A High-CBD, Low-THC Strain?

in #cannabis7 years ago

There are a lot of THC fans out there. But, nonpsychoactive CBD also deserves some credit. Medicinal and recreational consumers alike might enjoy the smooth, upbeat, and relaxing vibe CBD strains can create. Don’t expect a psychoactive experience, however. High-CBD herb is all about calm, clear, serenity. Here’s what it’s like to smoke a high-CBD, low-THC strain.

What is a high-CBD strain?

A high-CBD strain is a type of cannabis specifically bred to produce increased levels of nonpsychoactive cannabidiol (CBD).CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. Yet, up until recently, growers bred CBD out of their plants in exchange for increased psychoactivity. Now, CBD-dominant strains are becoming quite popular. When most people think of cannabis, they think of a plant that provides a mind-altering experience. However, there’s a lot more to the herb than a high.High-CBD strains have a variety of therapeutic uses, including:

CBD can also be used to balance out the high produced by psychoactive THC. When combined with THC, the two work together to amplify the pain-fighting and immune modulating properties of cannabis. Some high-CBD strains include:

 CBD vs. THC

CBD and THC affect the body in different ways. When you consume a high-THC strain, the psychoactive engages directly with special cell receptors in the central nervous system and throughout the body. The compound takes the place of other compounds that our bodies produce naturally, which are called endocannabinoids. The direct engagement with these cell receptors causes THC’s psychoactive effects. CBD, on the other hand, does not engage these cell receptors directly. It has several functions in the body, but, simply explained, one of its primary actions is to improve the endocannabinoids that you already have.CBD regulates the endocannabinoids that you already have. Endocannabinoids are the body’s own THC. CBD can prevent these endocannabinoids from being broken down, and it can also increase the levels of some of these compounds. CBD modulates what is called endocannabinoid tone. The differences in how these compounds function in the body contribute to very distinct smoking/vaping/edible experiences.

 The CBD experience

Most of the strains you find in a dispensary are very high in THC and low in CBD. A high-CBD, low-THC strain is the exact opposite. These strains will have virtually no psychoactivity. You won’t experience the mind-altering high from a CBD strain at all.Rather, high-CBD, low-THC buds are like a strong, herbal relaxant. Chamomile and lavender flowers are often used to promote a sense of ease and relaxation. In a way, CBD strains are like extra potent versions of these calming herbs. CBD quickly halts stress response and excitability.High-CBD strains do not produce the agitated paranoia that sometimes accompanies THC. Nor do they have the extremely sedating body effects of a heavy indica. Instead, they suddenly fill your mind and body with a clear-headed, focused, and calm sensation. Here are the basic CBD effects:

  • Promotes ease, calmness, and positive sense of wellbeing
  • Pain relief
  • Gentle upbeat mood
  • Mental and physical relaxation
  • Clear-headed and focused, no change in cognitive function
  • Slightly sedative

CBD is most often used for medical purposes. However, recreational users may also enjoy the occasional high-CBD strain.A strain that is CBD-dominant won’t distort cognition, but it does provide a nice calming sensation. If you’re having a stressful day and just want something to take the edge off, a high-CBD strain will knock your worries out of the park.Have you tried a high-CBD, low-THC strain? hey there, @stillrock! I sent an upvote for your post before I realized that you hadn't written it, and then I checked and noticed that most of your stuff is other people's writing... I see that you do source the original authors, which is good. However, it's really frowned upon here on Steemit...much better to have a link and then write your own thoughts here. You run the risk of being flagged or downvoted, so I thought I'd let you know, in case no one else has yet. If you have any questions, let me know, I'm happy to help!

Agreed! Not only is it frowned upon on steemit but everywhere to copy and paste an article and just source the original. You, @stillrock, did not even try and paraphrase it. Sorry for the downvote. Please rewrite in your own words at least.

When you exceed the amount of CBD you need, you'll get kinda 'flat' emotionally. You'll also find using at least 3% THC will increase the effectiveness of the CBD. :) CBD by itself is rather limited in efficacy and the dosage rates have a narrow window. Adding THC creates an almost linear connection between dosage level and effect. :)

I have a specific cut of Canna-Tsu which is around 20%+ CBD and 9-10% THC. It's great for now, but I'm selfing her and will be looking for the same terpene profile with a slightly higher THC or lower CBD. ;)

I totally LOVE my CBD products. I really find that when they are combined with THC the effect is exactly what I'm looking for. Though many times I do like the option to JUST have CBD.

Your articles are always awesome! Keep it up!
