Separating Families Over Plants

in #cannabis5 years ago

As legalization has swept across the United States and other countries, a growing number of people have become more open about sharing details of their personal cannabis experience. You can find various cannabis support groups and communities, where parents share their frustration with being discriminated against for their cannabis use.

Some parents have claimed that cannabis makes them better parents.

But despite living in an area where cannabis might be legal, using it could still cause you trouble in the way of increasing your risk to have your child unjustly taken away.

Some parents who have been open about their cannabis use have already had their custody denied or children taken away because of it.

CPS has insisted that they aren't going to treat cannabis any different because it might be legal use, they consider all substance use when evaluating the capacity of the parent to care for the child. And we know that they've made many unjust mistakes, even outright lied, on numerous occasions, resulting in unimaginable pain and suffering for innocent families.

No family should be torn apart over cannabis.

Especially when parents admit to using that cannabis for medicinal purposes. If cannabis can improve their quality of life then it's clear that it could improve their ability to care for those around them; let the individual decide what works best for them.

People who want to use cannabis as a natural treatment option shouldn't be left with the decision of choosing to medicate for healing, or go with other pharmaceutical routes so as to potentially decrease their risk of having their child taken away.

Not only might the cannabis use cause problems with CPS but it has also caused problems in the past with divorce procedures, if one party uses cannabis then the other can use that against them to try and decrease their chances of winning. Unfortunate, but it has happened.

It's a travesty to think of all of the pain that has been inflicted upon peaceful and innocent parties over this plant through the decades, we can only hope that the violence will decrease in the coming years and the stigma along with it.

It's heartbreaking, and legalisation in Canada isn't going to help. It might make it worse!

That ain't right I don't really see people smoking and fighting or beating up their loved ones like they do on alcohol... its just some capitalism bs to stop hemp in the 1930 that caused this nonsense it will take some time but people will learn about it and become familiar

no, it isn't the fault of capitalism either 🙈

Great point made here!

They don't blink an eye at an alcoholic.

Mom has anxiety? Have some Valium or Xanax!

Better not smoke that joint though!

Some people just have to chill out. Just keep your stash locked up, out of reach and don't hotbox the air your kids breathe. And especially don't let them have the special candies!
