SMTs and Communities, Testnet and Vision

ShitPost Sunday Edition:

Well, after all this time it seems like we are actually getting close. I quit talking about SMTs for quite some time and stated. I'll believe when I see it.

Last week SteemIt, Inc announced the testnet was live although I've heard there are some issues and it be Monday before much testing happens.

There has been very little talk about it, but I have always liked the idea.

As we all know some of the issues with STEEM are various visions, and disagreement on what should and shouldn't get rewards. Should we reward engagement, content, casual end-users... Yes, .. there are people for every one of those ideas.

The recent Downvote Spree is another reason that I have looked forward to communities and SMTs.

Imagine those who are very interested in Quality Content being able to have their own competitive site where literally they try to set up the rules and the moderation to support exactly that. I have to admit I get kind of excited for them.

Imagine communities that can make their own rules about downvoting or not, they can choose to mute whatever they see to be bad actors, circle jerkers or whatever the pet peeves are.

It is my guess some of the first communities will be Tribes switching over, but there is no reason to believe all of the Tribes will jump over immediately.

Is this a "Game Changer"? I kind of love that phrase because it is so dramatic. In this altcoin depression I think all small wins are enough. I'm not expecting anything to suddenly send the price shooting up, but I am looking for small wins.

A little more marketing, a little less fighting, a few new accounts, a little movement in distribution.

Personally, I can't wait for a change in topics.

What do you think/hope SMTs will look like, are you thinking about launching one?

Sort:

Depend on the costs involved I'd like to start a site. The purpose of it is just a seed of an idea. Right now I can only explain it is: TED but for everyone.

I know what you mean about what you are saying in this post @whatsup
A little over a day ago I wrote a Very Up Beat post for Steemmonsters and a Card I got for using a Mystery potion. Even the Creator of Steemmonsters AKA Splinterlands gave it an Up Vote in the first hour or so. Then Just like the (Rent a Cops) COWARDS that they are they Down Voted my post almost a Day Later. I then did a follow up post. You might enjoy it........

Yeah, saw the post just looked at your slightly over the top reaction.

:) Hang in there our politics will sort out.

I do think when a group is holding a huge vote they should use it carefully. But I guess it is up to those delegating to it, to hold them accountable... and perhaps they like it.

Yes it was over the Top. But, I noticed none of the Cowards came by to explain why they would Down Vote against the Up Vote of @yabapmatt, he certainly took the time and I am sure that me using a once only @tipu vote was not going to Rape the Rewards Pool....Thank you @whatsup for taking the time to comment

Yeah, don't rage yourself out... It can be frustrating right now...

Acidyo did make yet another downvote post... maybe it was directed at you.

Hopefully, coins used for various purposes by websites with large existing communities to be used as voting tokens, loyalty points, rewards for niche content creation etc. I'm not going to create an SMT because I doubt I will ever need to and if I'd want to, it would have to be for an organization that has the resources to deal with all the legal hassles. If I create a token, will I be releasing a security?

Not sure on the security thing a lot of people brought that up about the tribe tokens too. With 2500 mainlevel tokens out in crypto, I think it will be a while before SEC raids, Steem-Engine or whatever the next DEX will be.

I really think we have to find a solution for marketing indeed and stop talking about technicalities.

I also think we should do this, but I can't see any budget for it.

A little more marketing, a little less fighting, a few new accounts, a little movement in distribution (please)

Is this a line from an Elvis song?

If it is, it must be from 'Suspicious Minds'. :-)

lol.. I didn't think it was at the time, but maybe it should have been. lol

Not sure about it being a game changer. SMT's and the following tokens, are ultimately just tokens. Tokens does not specifically symbolize "money" or commercial value.
Creative-wise, I am excited to see what some these communities develop. Also, if it helps in any way to add exposure to high quality subject organized content, then I can see an improvement ahead.
The story of Job tries to answer the question, "why do bad things, happen to good people?" Its an ancient and fundamental question.

Why do good things happen to shit posters?

I don't think SMTs will answer that fundamental question.

why are we even here still? we must be idiots, surely in a definite way of being obstinate wankers, as such

I can't answer for you. I'm still here because I want to see if SMTs will fix anything.

Patience does wear thin though

Is it just me who thinks that SMT's won't be exactly what people think they'll be?

I wish I am wrong tbh...and we end up being witnesses of real tokenization of the web.

I think they will be immature, and a start and for the love of puppies, something besides downvotes and rewards to talk about .

@whatsup,
I am looking forward to see is there a way to shift SCOT to SMT. Hope both teams might think about this!

Cheers~
