Lift my Lamp beside the Golden Door
Lift my Lamp beside the Golden Door
Back on the Highline for this post, for those that haven't seen previous posts, The Highline is an almost one and a half mile elevated Walkway and Park on the West Side of Manhattan, built on unused railway tracks in the Meat Packing District, with nice walking paths, greenery, views and Art that changes during the year.

Here is the full piece, it is by Dorothy Lannone she is a Berlin-based artist whose works focus on eroticism and the female sexual experience.
As you can see this artwork depicts three colorful Statues of LIberty, and between them the words “I Lift My Lamp Beside the Golden Door,” which is the final line from Emma Lazarus’s poem “The New Colossus,” which is engraved on a bronze plaque mounted inside the statue at Liberty Island.
I am sure different people will have totally different views on this work, Some may not like it at all, but I found this one really stood out and caught ones attention

In contrast, this last photo shows another piece on the Highline, at first from a distance I thought it was some construction going on when I got closer and got this shot I wondered what it was, but looking online I found it is in fact an art piece.
It is by British Artist Phyllidia Barlow here is something she wrote about this piece
prop
…what remains? what is displaced?
where is the evidence of what used to be?
what was once industrial and purposeful is erased;
there are no shadows of the past;
where there was labour, grime and work
there is now pleasure
neatly contained within the richly verdant garden trail—
only the length and breadth of the High Line
are the reminders of its former rail track identity;
prop is a reminder of what might remain from an industrial past;
it is an ambiguous object—
although dependent on a hoarding structure, it cannot be that…
the existing hoardings visible along the High Line are vast,
supported by industrially fabricated structures;
prop is a mere shadow of those contemporary monuments;
in comparison to them, prop is a frail copy—
a prop in every way:
a fake, and a pretense—
other than its vacant circular orifices offering a sight line to what lies beyond …
Have a great weekend Everyone

I would have sure walked past that "pile if junk" and never given it two thoughts. What a cool piece and what an awesome time to be alive that we can pretty much instantly find all that information on it.

YEah I almost did exactly that walk by it, and yes that is one plus of the internet age so much information easily at hand
Very interesting. I was at the Highline in June and took a photo of the liberty statue paintings but didn't notice the "prop"
I suspect it was easy to miss by many I almost did :)

Ah, the industrial age...glad to hear the call to recycle and repurpose! Art made from waste, love it @tatoodjay!
Yeah I do love that aspect of it
