Why All The Attention On Steemit?steemCreated with Sketch.

Steemit.com

There seems to be a number of articles focusing upon Steemit of late. In fact, I just read an article by @stellabelle that talked about Steemit competitors. For some reason, this is about the 5th article in a week covering a similar topic.

@stellabelle put together a wonderfully comprised list covering, I presume, most of the competitors out there. I knew a couple on there but most I am not aware of.

https://steemit.com/socialmedia/@stellabelle/a-list-of-steemit-competitorsts8t7ted

Personally, I would add to the list busy.org and @steempeak since both are much better interfaces than Steemit. In that regard, I would call them "competitors".

In fact, who cares about Steemit? Quite frankly, even the development team doesn't have it as a high priority. They are busy working on bringing upgrades to the system instead of focusing upon a user interface (for those who think is a mistake, tomorrow I will post about one who forked the STEEM blockchain because of the exceptional back end infrastructure like the API).

Quite simply, we all know Steemit, even though it is the most used application, is a dinosaur. The layout looks like a webpage out of the 1990s. It is not an easy interface to get accustomed to and the features are minimal. The only upgrade that I know of since I joined over a year ago is the addition of the night mode and changing the color of the logo. Other than that, the layout of this interface is as static as it gets.

I would presume that Steemit is not going to remain this way forever. @ned mentioned a few months back the creation of another token which, I guess, means that they have bigger plans for Steemit.com. Nevertheless, at this point their focus is HF20, Hivemind, and SMTs.

I feel we make a mistake focusing too much attention on Steemit. Why put forth that foot when it is bony and ugly? Let us be honest: Steemit is not going to impress anyone. As I just mentioned, that are other interfaces that look better, have a ton more features, and development teams that are continually updating. That is what we need to present.

The other problem is that people use Steemit to mean STEEM. They are completely different animals. STEEM is a currency on and the name of the blockchain. It is much larger than Steemit. There are a ton of applications that are on here alongside Steemit. Many of them, when onboarding users becomes part of their ability, will most likely eclipse Steemit before the end of the year, in terms of usage.

Steemit is not what excites me about the future. Perhaps they will get a kick-a** interface together at some point. In the meantime, what does excite me is STEEM. All the work the development team is doing to bring out the major changes is going to really enhance the user experience. Plus, we are also seeing the emergence of a number of applications on this blockchain that have the potential to be of great impact.

We are fortunate there are a number of "competitors" to Steemit on the STEEM blockchain since it is lagging so far behind. Some of the sites @stellabelle mentioned could be serious depending upon the technology behind them. Of course, are they tied to applications like @dtube, @dlive, @dsound, and @steemhunt?

STEEM is the blockchain of opportunity in that a decision was made to appeal to developers. These are the ones who are going to make the blockchain successful. The next wave of users are not going to care about blockchain or what one they are on. Instead, their focus will be upon the application that they found which leads them here. The applications are what is going to push STEEM ahead.

Fortunately, I do not believe Steemit will be one of them drawing a lot of attention since it is not very impressive.

So, in this regard, I agree with @stellabelle, Steemit has a ton of competition, some of it on the same blockchain.

Lucky for us.

eSteem is important, as there is more mobile internet users now, than a desktop ones.

I honestly had no idea about how all of these platforms worked or interfaced and thought eSTEEM was just a third party software that runs Steemit.

Great point that I didnt touch upon. You are absolutely correct, mobile applications are only going to be more important as we move forward.

One day we will look back at Steemit as the incubator that many great projects sprung forth from. Yes the site may be archaic but it is still our little piece of freedom on the wild wonderful web of censorship and data scandals.

Maybe I'm an oddball, but I like Steemit's interface much better than most of the other ones, like the one at Busy for instance, even though Busy has more features.

Ned mentioned a different token for Steemit? As a stakeholder, I'm interested in hearing more about this.

He mentioned an token that was account based as opposed to stake based. He didnt elaborate much on it...just dropped it in a telegram room...so nobody knows how serious it was.

Would a new token dilute or add to the power of steem?

I think a second token would be a real kick in the nuts.

i think i’m the weird one...but i love steemit. the big thing for me is simplicity and steemit has that. sure the features and updates are minimal but for newer steemians that don’t even understand what sbd is vs. steem power....steemit can keep it simple for folks.

that being said i love innovation and think steempeak and busy are bother brilliant front ends.

i just love simplicity.

Oh man this annoys me so much. I was literally just at a blockchain meetup, wearing a shirt that clearly says "STEEM", and almost everyone just always says "steemit". Things like, "oh, is steemit a PoS or PoW system?", "are you a steemit witness", etc.

If i had a satoshi for every time i said "steemit.com is just one of many applications built on the steem blockchain"...

Way to represent STEEM out there for us man :) Also great job with your site steembottracker! We need more ambassadors like you.

Hodl strong your Steem Power!

That is my view also @amahovac93.

I feel much bigger things to come.

Steem Power is the oil of steem.. Everybody needs it to run smt's and steem blockchain projects

Delegating your steem power is a sure fire winner

You sure about delegating steem power?
I like being in control myself of with i like and what i will upvote.

Just my opinion but i think as new app's and smt's come online steemit blogging will dissapear and the value will be in steem power for the SMT's ...you can't run smt's without steem power. Also apps like dtube dlive and all the others run on steem power

Steem power is a win win situation.

How to not invest in steem when community is this strong?

I agree. Whats up with the UI on Steemit? Busy.org is 100x better looking.

Happy to be doing our part over at https://steempeak.com

Let us know if there's any other features you'd like to see happen.
Even if we have them on the list we'll mentally move them up in priority. haha
