Red Fish: Now Is The Perfect Opportunity To Become A Minnow

in #busy5 years ago

This post is an extension of a comment and replay that @preparedwombat left on my post this morning.

In it, he stated that a Red Fish can become a Minnow for roughly $200. This is a baffling idea when you think about it. The fact that the price of STEEM dropped so low is really helping make this possible.

I will state that I understand that not everyone is in financial position to take advantage of this. However, it did get me thinking about how many can.

Therefore, I want to issue a challenge to all Red Fish.

By the end of the month, we need to see 10,000 Minnows. Call it the "10,000 Minnow Quest".

According the charts put together each day by @arcange, this is the breakdown of different categories as of yesterday.

https://busy.org/@arcange/steemit-statistics-20181120-en

At present, there are 8,946 Minnows, or 1,054 away from 10,000. Adding over 1,000 Minnows in a little over a week sounds like a lot yet we have to consider there are 93,251 Red Fish meaning that only 11.3% need to power up to the roughly 500SP required.

Now, I feel very certain that more than 1,000 people in those 93K+ accounts can afford more than the $220 needed to become a Minnow. This should be an easy target to meet.

One of the biggest complaints about the Steem blockchain is the distribution of power. Since SP is what determines one's standing on the blockchain, powering up is the way for one to enhance this.

For all the complaining, now is the time to put the money where the mouth (keyboard) is. This is a fantastic opportunity to immediately become a Minnow. We are not talking thousands of dollars at this point. The drop in the price of STEEM is a blessing in this regard.

Obviously, this is not financial advice in any manner. However, I have bought on the way down 3 different times and am poised to pull the trigger again should we see another level down. I am a Dolphin intent on growing my account. Ironically, there are a number of other Dolphins who are doing the same thing. A few of the larger accounts are purchasing STEEM at these low prices.

Here is the present MVest breakdown from the same post:

Here is the distribution as it stood at the end of October:

Notice Dolphins are up over 1,100 MVests, more than any other category in both pure number and percentage. While a portion of this is naturally payout from the reward pool, a large part of it is from buying. This is a higher amount than usual.

There is the old saying "you can lead a horse to water...".

Here is the bottom line. People want things to be different on Steem and now is the time to do it. Part of the system is the purchasing of STEEM and powering up. That is a valid part of the ecosystem and one that is required. We need people to become vested in what is taking place here.

It is easy to bang away at the keyboard and complain how unfair things are. It is also simple to sit there screaming how the Whales and Orcas need to pay attention to the smaller accounts. While that might be true, it is equally as valid to say the smaller accounts need to do something to help themselves.

The opportunity is being presented. My account is much stronger than it was at the beginning of the month due to my three purchases. Can you say the same? If you lack the funds, that is understandable. Nevertheless, there are 93K people below the 500 SP level. I can guarantee you that not all of them lack the amount required to move up a level.

This is a test. In life, there are times when we are presented with opportunities. The question is do we take advantage of them. 93K+ accounts were just handed a gift by the crypto gods. Are they going to take advantage of it?

We will see how the numbers look in another week or so.

For the sake of those individuals and the platform, in general, I hope a lot more than 1,000 take advantage of STEEM at these prices.

Minnow in Steem, small fry in USD

We seriously need to start calling the 'minnow' class as a bigger and cooler fish. Tuna or swordfish for example.

I've long though this. Just about the only postive thing I can say about the label 'minnow' is that it sounds better than 'plankton'.\n\nNot sure about 'Tuna'... it just conjures up images of 4 tins on special in Sainsburys. \n\nThis is a great idea for a little steem compeition!

I like Tuna because they're a big predatory fish that fit the size range just below dolphins, and everyone knows them. We could also do seals or sealions. Any swimming sea life is fair game, doesn't have to be fish/cetacean IMO. It just has to fit the right size profile and not sound dumb.

Fair point... I just lack the cultural sophistication to see past the tins!\n\nOn that basis Tuna makes sense.

If only the Normans had eaten Tuna, we'd have a different word for the meat and the living animal, à la beef/cattle, pork/pig.

Well, this offers another point I think I've made it to minnowhood now at 616sp! Woohoo! I forgot about that when choosing to buy what I could right now. Hopefully, next week I can accumulate a bit more.

You go girl!!!

Yes at 616 SP, you are a full blown Minnow. Moving up in the world.

Right

Now, the only problem is getting cash in my pocket into STEEM.

Do they have STEEM gift cards down at the 7-11?

Time to get my hands on some Fiat money. Tricky as a fulltime Steemian. I need more income streams.

Hard to get your hands on my friend when you do not deal in it.

I have some ideas how to quickly change that. ;)

Selling your blood for STEEM does show commitment but try not to overdo it. 😀

You gotta do what you gotta do.

I wish I could purchase, but Fiat 2 Crypto services won't deal with anyone < 18 years old!

😞

You can use a money order (via post office) at your age right?

I'll sell you some Steem at 10% commission. We can agree a price, I'll give you details via Partiko message or transfer memo, you send money order for agreed amount. When it arrives I'll send you the agreed Steem.

Edit: Didn't realize how expensive money orders are in UK. Well, offer still stands anyway.

Maybe he can get someone to send money via paypal.

Unfortunately PayPal is generally a terrible option for the seller.

Thanks for the offer, can't believe how much they want for a money order! I appreciate the offering, but, at that rate (not yours, post office's) I'mma have to say no. I'm guessing
(Faster Payments) bank transfers would be out of the question?

If you don't mind sending to a Euro bank account, sure.

Oh, you have a euro (denominated?) bank account, fair enough (My bank wants £25/transfer for that), nvm! Thanks for the offers though, I'm gonna try to ask some of my steemit friends if they are willing to sell. 🤞🤞

Anyway, big thanks for trying! :)

That really sucks and I am sorry to hear that.

Perhaps there are some exchanges without KYC. I do not know about that stuff.

Maybe a few on here could provide more insight.

Not a problem, but all UK exchanges are really KYC (Legalities YAY!) I have a way to prove my age, but then they would all be 'well it doesn't match so bye' anyhoo thanks for the advice and I might as well try asking around 🤞🤞

Get someone else that you trust to buy Steem for you 😉

I'm currently trying this 🤞

$220 Minnow! I didn't realize it was quite that easy! Love this... Great post.

Yeah. When @preparedwombat made the comment, I think the price was at $.40 so he said $200.

We have not see this opportunity since I joined this blockchain 15 months ago.

This would a great initiative for all of the community! I have seen similar initiatives from @hitmeasap where they find accounts very close to 500 SP and post to make a push from the community to get them over 500 SP. Maybe scouts can look for accounts with 200-400 SP that have been posting content to help with getting them over the threshold as well. Or maybe a matching program where some members can match STEEM purchases up to a limit for red fish to get to minnows or even a delegation match to them. Some good ideas to help those seeking growth!

Well I did some thinking after reading this and decided to get quite a bit more steem power..! Not quite "Dolphin" level yet, but a lot closer now :P
