The 3 lessons I learned to be successful on Steem

When you start on Steem, in addition to discovering how this platform works, you need to develop your talents as a blogger and communications manager.

Since my arrival on Steem, I have experienced two big waves of Francophone newcomers and I have been able to observe the different behaviours that lead to success... and failure (if the person cannot turn around quickly enough).

My role on Steem is to encourage and support the development of the Francophone community. My ideal is for our community to grow more and more and for this reason, I would like the newcomers to understand this platform quickly so that they do not become discouraged, but want to stay and promote it.

Here are the 3 big lessons you should learn to make your place on Steem.

1. Have patience

There are often waves of newcomers on Steem. And then a few weeks later, they disappear. They have published like crazy little madmen articles about everything and nothing that don't exceed a few cents. And they leave frustrated, putting Steem in a corner of the brain and this platform that seemed revolutionary.

Winning rewards usually takes time. To do this, you need to gain the trust of your community, make yourself known by giving yourself visibility and build your reputation.

Besides that, the ideal is to publish regularly and get your readers accustomed to your universe. This is how trust is gained and ultimately, upvotes.

To start on Steem is to start on a path that is not necessarily easy (unless you are very lucky) but whose long term vision will only make you a winner.

2. Don't focus on your rewards

Like you, I arrived on Steem because it was possible to be remunerated for sharing my ideas. Like you, I ran a blog for years that didn't pay me a penny (and I even refused to advertise on it). Like you, the lure of profit has made me want to get involved body and soul on this platform which in reality has many other opportunities.

And then, it's disenchantment: getting rewards on Steem is difficult and you are tempted to give up.

There are many others opportunities than only earning money on Steem…

On Steem, you can:

Discover the world of cryptocurrency. It's the best entry point in reality because you don't have to invest your own money or install a mining server to get cryptocurrency!
Develop new skills. On Steem, you could potentially be rewarded for sharing quality content. It's time to start a new hobby you can talk about!
Expand your network of friends and professionals. On Steem, it is extremely easy to get in touch with other users... even if they are world-famous stars! And thanks to chat, you will be able to make friends all over the world. It's a bit strange and confusing at first, to have friends you only know by their pseudonyms. But why not in the end?

3. Get involved in the community

I've already mentioned it many times in my articles. For me, the key to Steem's number one success is community involvement. Do you want to be successful? Be nice! Communicate, comment, reply to your messages, spend time on chats, help others. Create your network because, as in real life, your network is your factor of success.

Hopefully these three lessons can save you a few months of learning!

And for the “old Steemians,” do you have any other lessons to share?

You named the three most important lessons. Today I celebrate my 1 year anniversary on Steemit and from the more than 200 persons that started on Steemit on 21st November 2016 only 3 are still active members. The others gave up.
It's so important not to give up but to stay active like you mentioned in lesson nr. 3. It's rewarding to get to know a lot of people but you have to communicate and invest time in comments and replies.

Thanks @clio for your message,
and ...

I can't imagine how it was with 200 persons (that you knew personally ???)... It was like a village :-) But I understand why they have gave up... (especially with the wrong message Steemit Inc is sending about money...).

I didn't know them personally. I learned about the 200+ persons today (see my post from today).
It's weird really to realize that there were so many people who became a Steemit member that day and all of them (except 3) disappeared again.
And yes, that message is wrong of course, wrong PR I'm sorry to say!

Don't be worry to say that about the PR ;-) It's true. They know it ;-)

Hey! Coucou !

Great info lovely @roxane. As quite the newbie myself I've learned a bit since I came here and because I love the ideas here am now promoting steemit here in Ireland (and FB).

Hello @misslasvegas !! A newbie ? You ? Really ? :-D You were at Steemfest, you can't be a newbie anymore :D
Congratulation of promoting it in Ireland, please, have a look at utopian.io and submit everything you do about promoting you can get good reward for that!
See you beautiful !

hahaha, well according to the statistics I am nothing more than a newbie :) But working hard to get out of that though. But yes, after steemfest, I definitely don't FEEL like a newbie anymore.

Happy to heard that !

I know I'm just a mannequin, but I'm still waiting for a reply...

@roxane This post could be part of etiquette on SteemIt! From my point of view... The secound one is normally focuse for those that are newbie and haven't experience on the ecosystem.
Great post! Congrats!

Now that you says that... I think it's part of the Etiquette already :D
Thanks for commenting :)

Great post, thank you! I'm new on this platform and I'll try to follow your advice :)
