Today 203 years ago, Napoleon Bonaparte escaped from his banishment on Elba.

While the Great Powers Austria, Prussia, Russia and the UK were busy dancing in Vienna, while redistributing continental Europe, the ex-emperor collected an army, marched to Paris and took over the government. He was ultimately defeated in the Battle of Waterloo in June 18, after which he was send off to Saint-Helena.
