The old house - Story -Chapter 1

Julia sighed. She had been staring at the ceiling for the last hour.  She was starting to get irritated with herself, but she just couldn't fall asleep, and it was nearly two in the morning. Lately there had been so many changes in her life, new town, new job and a new house. 

It was always difficult to sleep when you move into a new house, but it was particularly difficult in this one. After she got the job out here in the country, she took a few days off to search for a pretty little house, but the houses were much more expensive than she thought. 

She finally settled on an old house, and she looked forward to the renovation process.  She had a done a few odd things over weekends, but during the week she came home so late and she was so tired, that she just didn't have time to work on the house. Tomorrow was Saturday, and she hoped that she could get more done. She still had to get used to the new sounds and the wooden floors creaking, but she wanted to keep the original house in tact.  

Once everything at work settled, she knew she would have more time, but for now she just had to push through and live like this. At least she had time to paint her room and to make the kitchen more livable.  

She didn't even know anyone in the area, except for old Mr Smith whom she met in the grocery store on the day she moved into the house. He had lived in the area for nearly forty years. 

"Safest place in the world" he said when he walked her home. He lived right next door to her, and he had the most beautiful garden. He promised that he would help her with her garden once she was done renovating. 

Julia was really tired, and went downstairs to make herself some warm milk. She stared out the window while she waited for the milk to boil, and saw the heavy clouds outside. It was definitely going to rain soon, and she just hoped that she could get some sleep tonight. She walked upstairs while drinking the milk, and got back into bed. She grabbed a book from the bedside table and started reading. 

She had found the book in one of the shelves in the study, and it looked pretty interesting at the time. She managed to read a few pages, but the milk did the trick and before she knew it she drifted off to sleep. The book fell on the floor next to her.

The sound of a lawnmower woke Julia and she couldn't believe how rested she felt.  She forgot to close the curtains last night, and got up to see what was going on outside.  She saw Mr. Smith cutting his grass and it was a beautiful sunny day. All the clouds were gone, and it was a good day to do some painting outside. 

She picked up the book from the floor and put it next to her bed again. She took a quick shower, before going downstairs to get some coffee. She wanted to get to the hardware shop early and felt excited about working on the house today.
