No one is as blind as those who don't want to see - A short story

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

The day started out hectic. Mary overslept and then her car wouldn't start. She had no other choice but to take the bus. She hated taking the bus to work and as she stood there waiting she dreaded every minute of her day.

The bus was late as usual, and more jammed than ever. She had to stand in an aisle and hang on for dear life when the bus pulled away. She just wanted to turn around, go back home and crawl into bed.

She stood staring out the window, and it started to drizzle outside. She forgot her umbrella and she knew she was going to be wet by the time she got to the office. She could kick herself.

The bus was unusually quiet as if everyone was lost in their own thoughts dreading the day ahead. At the next stop an old man got onto the bus. She only saw his hat as he entered because she couldn't see past all the people in front of her.

The bus pulled away and she nearly fell into the arms of the stranger next to her but she held on for dear life. Beautiful day today, she heard someone say from the front of the bus. He kept on commenting about the beautiful scenery outside. He kept calling attention to each landmark they passed, and after a few block everyone was staring outside.

When they passed the flower shop even Mary smiled as the voice that she couldn't see described the beautiful flowers in such exquisite detail.

That one voice inspired everyone on the bus. As Mary maneuvered herself towards the door she walked past the old man, and she nearly stumbled when she saw that he was wearing dark glasses and he carried a thin white cane.

She felt ashamed of herself when she got to the front of the bus.
No one is as blind as those who don't want to see....

great story, well done.

Thank you....yesterday I made such a balls up. I was busy writing a story and then changed my mind...then the cat ran over the keyboard...and I posted one sentence. I had to think very fast to get something in my post and then all my tags were wrong...felt like an idiot!
