Singapore for Cheap and Quick - Plans and Costs

I'm going to Singapore in 2 days on a bus like this.

It takes about 6 hours to get there from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, and I like it much better than flying.

I can take liquids and food and there is no luggage weight restriction. Bus Stations also have far less security to deal with than airports.

I have to do this trip so that I leave Malaysia each 90 days and then they re-check me to come back. I am not doing any funny business, so I should not have a problem at any of the four immigration points I will be passing through.

The whole trip is pretty cheap. And the bus is still empty with two days to go.

RM 50 equals $12 USD. I have to take two trains to get to the bus and walk for probably 1 hour afterwards. The Kuala Lumpur city trains cost $5 usd each way and I already have that paid on my transit card. Like a local! I live in walking distance to the first stop.

The main bus seats are very comfortable

I can look like hell and exhausted and no one will care.

I will travel most of the day and go to sleep as soon as I get to my hostel.

The city bus situation in Singapore is ridiculous.

38 minutes! Bad traffic! Lots of one way streets. Change buses! No.

I think I will be better off walking. I will be glad to get off the bus and stretch my legs anyway.

By walking, I can see the route I will need to travel back on, see how long it takes me, and maybe get some food.

It's either going to take 17 or 18 minutes.

I always double google maps time for old lady speed, so this is more like 35 minutes. Then if I am taking photos and buying food? Who knows! And how about that luggage? It's a dead weight for sure.

I will be doing this walk the first time after 6 pm. But for the return trip I will be walking at noon. Most likely carrying my umbrella against sun - maybe rain. My arthritic hands and wrists can already feel this.

Fast forward to Tuesday morning with my free oatmeal. I will take my spices and coconut oil this time to get a bit of health going.

And I can also have wheat bread toast with marmalade and unlimited strong coffee. I will be carbo-loaded, caffeine fueled, and sugar high. WooHoo!

The view down the street. Those men built their bamboo scaffolding in order to work. You can see more poles in the truck. I've seen this happen in many countries now. So much more efficient the the metal type.

The hostel has wonderfully fast and free wifi. My Kuala Lumpur wifi is expensive and metered, so I want to take advantage of this gift. I will also have my external drives and might even get to them.

So I will not be doing any of this:

When I get tired, I go up these stairs to the elevator.

And check out the balcony view.

That corner has a cheap Chinese restaurant I may get food from there if I did not bring enough with me.

Then it is off to a comfortable bed in a delightfully cold room. Normally it is dark as can be with no windows. I slept good here last time.

The hostel cost is 26 usd for the two nights I will be there, and comes with the free wifi and breakfast.

Then on Wednesday at 11:30, I will walk again back to the bus.

S$ 25.00 is USD 18.50. Why is it more to come back? Nobody knows. It just is.

At least I will walk on nice surfaces

Past French Road! Named for me! A good omen for the trip of there ever was one.

This was my pickup point last time. This time it is the halfway mark of the walk.

And if I get on the bus properly, I will do my sightseeing on the way back to the border.

And get good photos of the route.

And pray hard that Malaysia lets me back in with no difficulty.

I look trustworthy, so I think they will.

So goes the start of my week. Will I get my 2-3 posts a day in on two blogs? Highly unlikely, but it is good to have goals.

Situation Critical – My rent and wifi are not paid and now are both overdue

UPDATE: I am so happy and relieved to tell you that:

• my rent and a wifi top up have been paid.
• the money sent to my US paypal account has arrived, through Thailand to Malaysia!

A bigger post describing current events will be posted soon, but I want to let anyone checking on me know that the first part of the situation is solved and that at least I will not be cut off from the world without a roof over my head.

And I can afford to go to Singapore for my required visa trip. Can you go to Singapore for three days and spend a total of $75 USD? Watch me!
