Chinese miners are finding a difficult relocation in Southeast Asia

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

Mining in China is still allowed, but there have been rumors of government repression and, due to this speculation, many mining operations based in the country have begun to move.

Some operations that are still seeking cheaper electricity tariffs within the region have moved to border cities in Yunnan, but many Chinese miners have moved to other areas in Southeast Asia such as South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Zhang says he had mining friends who have already "occupied" the suburbs of Cambodia and Myanmar. He made the calculations and discovered that the areas of Southeast Asia still offer much cheaper electricity than other countries around the world.

However, the miner explains that he is not very happy with the move and declares that he really regrets it. At first, Zhang discovered that Cambodia was expensive in some areas of operations, but less expensive in other areas compared to other regions.

"Compared to other miners who choose Vietnam and Myanmar, electricity in Cambodia is a bit more expensive, but costs less in other expenses," Zhang explains in his recent interview.

"It costs almost the same in Cambodia as the price of industrial electricity in China, 1.3 yuan (US $ 0.20) per kilowatt-hour (kWh), but you can take advantage of the theft of electricity from streetlight installations with the help of some experts "

The costs of the accessories and the maintenance of operations is what gave headaches to your mining operation, explains Zhang. "Maintenance and accessories are very big problems, and you can also say that the cost of supplies is very high," says Zhang.

"But hardware maintenance is a challenge, it would cost a large sum, at least 3 times more than the cost in China, especially on hot days entering March. Buying parts here is really a big headache, we have no choice but to buy them in China, which would take days or even weeks to have it available in operation here. "

Sometimes we went to the local miners for help, while they took the opportunity to ask for an unfairly high price for a small installation.

Zhang also noticed that Cambodia suffered major power outages where there was no electricity for a whole day or even more. The miner says that to mitigate the problem, if an operation has a connection with an "informed" energy company, it can steal energy from a nearby streetlamp.

However, local residents can report this method to the authorities, and Zhang says residents are not very friendly with Chinese miners at this time. In addition, local miners and financial institutions backed by Western countries are also not happy that Chinese miners are relocating in these countries.

"Besides the local residents and the miners, the institutions financed by the Western countries are also hostile to us, they are all trying to get us out of here, and I am considering it," Zhang concludes.
