Getting Started With Skillshare

in #business7 years ago

skillshare 2.jpgSo you signed up and you are ready to make your first course what do you need? For starters a computer and a microphone. Right now I use a Alienware laptop and a blue snowball microphone but this isn't what I started with. When I first started I had a dell Inspiron and some cheapo mic I bought off of amazon for like 6 bucks. You don't really need anything expensive in fact if you are really strapped for cash I'm pretty sure you can get away with doing most things with just a smartphone. Something you may want to take into consideration is editing software I use Cyberlink power director but there are also programs like adobe after effects and final cut pro.

Course Format

So now lets get into how you are going to make your courses. You have quite few options of how you can create your courses. For your first option you can do a simple slideshow/powerpoint style presentation where you explain your course over a set of slides or still images. This is a good option for people who teach really simple courses or for people uncomfortable with showing their faces on camera. To get started you will want software that can do powerpoint and software that can screen capture. For screen capture software I use cyberlink power director 15 ($60) but if you are strapped for cash you can use obs studio (FREE). Most people will probably go with microsoft office for their powerpoint presentations but I use open office personally. You get all the benefits of microsoft office but for free so again if you are strapped for cash go with open office.

Your next option is talking head. This is a good option if you are comfortable showing your face on camera. One this to take note of is skillshare requires you to show examples for whatever you are teaching.

Interactive courses is next on the list. Skillshare is big on student engagement so any courses you make
that has student actively participating ( like a cooking or art courses) are a big plus on skillshare.

So now that you know what your options are its time to get out there and experiment. See what works best for you.
