Five hiking trails in or near Budapest

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, offers several beautiful hiking trails and natural areas within and around the city. Here are five good hiking trails in Budapest:

Buda Hills (Budai-hegység)

The Buda Hills offer a variety of hiking trails, ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes. One popular route is the one that leads to János Hill (János-hegy), where you can visit the Elizabeth Lookout Tower (Erzsébet-kilátó) for panoramic views of Budapest. There are also trails leading to Normafa, which is a popular picnic spot.

Hármashatár Hill (Hármashatár-hegy)

Located in the western part of Budapest, Hármashatár Hill is known for its diverse flora and fauna. There are several marked hiking trails that take you through the forested slopes and open meadows. It's a great place to enjoy nature without leaving the city.

Budaörs

Just outside Budapest, near popular stores such as IKEA, Auchan and Decathlon, you find Budaörs with its many tops worth visiting. It almost feels like small mountains as you visit Farkashegy, Sikhegy, Odvashegy, Köhegy, and all the other tops in this area.

Óbuda Island (Óbudai-sziget):

Located in the Danube River, Óbuda Island is a popular destination for hiking and outdoor activities. It's accessible by a bridge and offers walking and biking trails along the riverbanks. It's a great place to enjoy a leisurely stroll or bike ride while enjoying river views.

Pilis Mountains (Pilis-hegység):

While not in Budapest itself, the Pilis Mountains are just a short drive from the city and offer numerous hiking opportunities. The trails in Pilis are more challenging, taking you through dense forests, rocky terrain, and up to scenic viewpoints. The Dobogókő area in Pilis is a popular starting point for hikes.
