This challenge in the SEC season 19 week.1 contest is very relate to my job as a teacher. I am a science teacher who teaches at a junior high school. I have been teaching for approximately 21 years. But every day I am still learning to adapt to students and the times. Regarding the activity of "designing lesson plans" is a task that we must fulfil as a teacher before going into the field and teaching students we must prepare ourselves.

As a teacher being creative and innovative is necessary in designing lesson plans so that the learning that takes place is meaningful and inspiring for students. Here is my sharing according to the contest theme.

What material do you want to teach to students or to your child?

Me as a science teacher with my own props "round dancing DNA"

As a science teacher who teaches grade 9 at the junior high school level, science teaching materials are already available in the curriculum issued by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Indonesia. The teaching material is what I will convey to my students at school.

For class IX, the teaching materials in the field of science studies include:
1. Reproductive system in humans
2. Reproduction system in plants and animals
3. Biotechnology
4. Magnetic properties of objects
5. Static electricity and dynamic electricity
6. Inheritance of properties in living things
7. Environmentally friendly technology
8. Soil
9. Particle substance

Now for today's contest I will raise about the material of inheritance of traits in living things related to the DNA molecule. I will elaborate on how to design a lesson plan for the material of inheritance of traits, science subject for grade 9 junior high school students.

Explain how you would design the opening activities, core activities and closing activities in a learning material?

Opening activities

1. the teacher prepares students by inviting prayer and checking student attendance.
2. The teacher checks the students' mastery of competence in the past learning material.
3. The teacher motivates the students
4. The teacher conveys the learning objectives, assessment techniques and the scope of material to be learnt

Core Activities

1. Learners are divided into several heterogeneous groups
2. Learners carry out the process of observing the stimulus provided by the teacher in this case the teacher displays the DNA model props and demonstrates them in front of the learners.
3. Learners conduct enquiry activities about teaching aids related to the teaching material, namely "inheritance of traits ".
4. Next, the teacher distributes student worksheets and asks students to work in groups
Learners carry out information gathering activities and reasoning/associating/processing the data they get by discussing in their respective groups.
6. Learners present the results of their group work in front of the class and communicate with friends and the teacher corrects understanding and information that is not appropriate.
7. The teacher rewards the results of the learners' presentations.

Closing activities

1. Together with the learners, the teacher summarises the learning outcomes and provides reinforcement of the material and reflects.
2. The teacher conveys the learning plan for the next meeting
3. The teacher closes the learning activity by praying together

What method will you use, explain why it is the most appropriate?

The method I use in my learning design is the cooperative learning method where students learn in groups and work together to find information according to the teaching materials and student worksheets distributed to them.

In this method there is a learning syntax that must be followed and implemented by the teacher as a facilitator in the learning process. Through the STAD learning model, it is expected to trigger student cooperation in teams and student sensitivity to teaching materials.

What tools and media do you need so that learners can understand it well?

As a science teacher I teach in a public school located on the outskirts of the city with the condition of students who are mostly at the lower middle economic level, so I have to adjust the teaching media that I use to be simple, interesting and easy to understand by students. Although currently there are many teaching aids that utilise technology, teaching aids that are directly seen, and touched are more meaningful in the learning process of students.

For teaching material about The system of inheritance of traits, especially the DNA molecule, I tried to design my own teaching media in the form of DNA props from simple materials inspired by educational content on Yiutube as well. I named the props Round dancing DNA, because it can rotate and like a person who is dancing.

The materials I used to make the props were:

1. Beige ice stick
2. Colourful paint
3. Used shoe box
4. Used dynamo
5. Battery
6. Switch and connecting cable
7. Hvs paper
8. Glue, knife cutter

Here is a look at the props that I assembled myself, which is a model of a double helix DNA molecule. The colours on the ice cream stick represent the nitrogenous bases on top of which there is pentose sugar which marked with white blobs of paper

In addition, I also prepared student discussion sheets (LKPD) which I also designed myself, adjusting the teaching aids and materials.
