В його Валарах проглядаються боги давньої Греції, Риму, кельтських легенд. Але і сюжет перегукується з християнським катехизмом і розповідям про створення ангелів та архангелів. В бунті Мелькора за аналогією, прослідковується біблійний Сатана, противник єдиного Бога. У Толкіна це також найпрекрасніший з творінь єдиного, який сам хотів стати подібним до Бога. Так і тут триває відвічна боротьба між добром і злом.

"Quenta Silmarillion" is actually the history of the elves, or the "Silmarillion", the story of the semi-mythical beauty of the "Silmarilas", which hides the true light given by the Valar.
