How I've managed and survived total blackout in my area for over a month now.

Hi,

It's no news that most parts of Africa with great potentials in natural and human resource still remain largely underdeveloped and poorly managed.

One easy way to see Africa’s power problem is by looking at a picture of the Earth from space at night. While other inhabited regions of the world glow and sparkle like jewels in a black velvet display case, Africa remains largely dark. That’s because the continent’s 1.1 billion
inhabitants have at their disposal just 185 gigawatts (GW) of installed power-generation capacity.
Africa is also the fastest-growing continent, with a population expected to hit 1.8 billion by 2050. The new generations will need a reliable supply of electricity to power factories, expand the economy and create jobs. “We’ll have a huge issue if we simply do nothing,” Charrieau says.

Case in point; "The Nigerian Power" issue.
The plague of Power outages and total blackouts seem the norm in this part of the world, the reasons ranging from but not limited to insufficient power generation, obsolete equipment, poor maintenance, vandalism, poor project execution and corruption are all but a cliché to many.

I might be sounding a little bit intense tonight, but my "nagging" is got to be heard somehow (don't it?).

I love my country, no doubt but some group of persons do not deserve the tinniest bit of that gesture of love. .

The talk on "the power issues in Nigeria" cannot be exhausted in one post so lemme leave that for another day.

This isn't the first, second, fifth, or even the tenth time I've had to manage myself through a power crisis (some lasted for more than 6months) and I believe my fellows would concur. But then, this case really got to me this time because I actually needed the damn thing (we call it "light" here).

Since I found steemit, my need for light grew exponentially and in order to keep up, I've had to get an extra source of power for my "ancient gad-gets" (over use dey worry them.. lol) now I wish I'd picked the solar power bank.
So on the 10th of last month, I'd made a trip back to "Alaska"( like we call it), only to be greeted by a "transformer breakdown" news flash. At first it seem like some minor issue. It wasn't until the transformer in question was hauled off in a truck that it dawned on me that we were in for a real mess.

Days soon turned into weeks and you know how unsettled a steemian with a set target would get having the odds against him (I soon became friends with every shop owner on my street who had a generator set) sometimes sleeping over at IKs' or Joes' if I thought I needed to be up for most of the night. Because gassing our "compound generator" would tear a big fat hole in anyone's pocket who dared to fund that enterprise save for the 1-2hrs "water pumping hour" where we'd all scamper to get some bars on our phones (thanks to current hike in fuel price) .. phew!
I've lost count of the number of times Oga Bobby (the caretaker) would quarrel with anyone who refused to contribute their quota so we could fuel that damn gen.

I love the way we adapt to unimaginable situations in this country (we are survivors from birth). But just how long can stuff like this keep happening and we just keep pretending its alright?

I'm a bit relieved now cause that transformed is back in the hood baby! at least we can go back to the 9hrs per day (if its Christmas) erratic supply of power, and my power bank is full!! (Feels like I got 20yrs worth of power!)
