Daily Blog: There's a 30% chance that it's already raining...
21st June 2017
Just a quickie blog for today, it's been a long and tiring day and I need my beauty sleep (oh dear lord do I!)
So the day started out early, load everyone and everything into the car, drop the kids off at school and then off to IKEA. You see every other Wednesday @scarletleonard and I have a day out adulting, adulting like adults who don't have kids, just for the day. We began with a big hearty IKEA breakfast, nice and cheap thanks to the family card. That should be enough to keep a fat lad going for a bit...
Then we headed off into deepest, darkest IKEA Nottingham. We don't need much so it should be a quick run around then into town.... best laid plans. Well, nearly 2 hours later and we're half way around and spent most of it picking out bits to change the kitchen around - not what we came for. We came for picture frames, a jug and some lightbulbs. Oh, and Swedish Meatballs of course!
By this point my knees are starting to swell up, and I didn't say anything to @scarletleonard. I didn't want to spoil her day out. So I did my best to keep up. I think you already know I'm regretting that now...
Sprint to the finish, grabbing some metal shelving from the self-service section to be turned into a monstrosity of a sideways shelving unit in the kitchen - galvanised steel.. how very modern. You can read more about what we bought in @scarlertleonard's blog here: https://steemit.com/blog/@scarletleonard/wednesday-21-june-or-breakfast-or-project-kitchen-shelves-or-kick-the-clutter
Next, into the center of Nottingham. Starting with a few cheeky comic variant purchases at Forbidden Planet while @scarlertleonard is in Starbucks getting her fancy cold coffee... thing. She dives into Sports Direct in search of something tight fitting and sporty while I start eying up the new Samsung S8+ and quizzing the staff on whether it's worth the cost (nearly £50 month!).
A quick chat in HSBC, she's still clothes shopping, and I learn about a new ISA that could help us buy the house we're renting right now, bonus!
Then on we trot, straight to geek mecca. Mondo Comics/The Dice Cup Cafe. It's here that most of my hard earned money is turned into a comic pull list on a fortnightly basis and what's left generally gets spent on board games or Magic the Gathering. Today we picked up a present for our eldest (10) as it's his birthday coming up soon, we got him the classic "Settlers of Catan", or just "Catan" as it's called now. Should keep us busy through the summer holidays. I may have also picked up a large bundle of comics. I don't know why I hide it, @scarletleonard is the most geek-supporting wife ever!
By this point we've walked literally miles, I'd hit my daily step goal (5000) and more, I was around 6.5k at this point. Bear in mind also that my FitBit seems to miss steps, possibly because I walk lightly. @scarletleonard's FitBit was saying well over 10k steps and I trust that, we'd covered about the same distance all day. My knees were crying...
Bus out to the park and ride, drive home (which I saw most of but also diligently played the part of an emergency services siren through the medium of snoring - apparently) and pick up the kids from after-school club. After a hot day at school and running around with their friends afterwards they sparked out pretty early (they eat at afterschool club) so the evening was our own. I wasn't mobile at this point so I spent the evening on 7.2.5..... what do you mean you don't know what that is?
LEGION! Okay, so I'm a World of Warcraft nerd. I used to be an EVE Online nerd but that took thinking, WoW is easy :) So the next raid was out and sadly I had no-one to go to the ball with. I've been through a few guilds and they either take things far to seriously, are terrible at playing or are just asshats. I'm still looking for a friendly and competent guild to raid with so for tonight I churned through some of the previous raids hoping for high ilvl gear.
And that brings us upto about an hour ago. That's when I suddenly paniced and thought, I haven't drawn the winner of today's competition! So I did that (congrats @andrianna), sent out the winnings and setup the new competition.
I wasn't going to write a blog post tonight but I ended up on Youtube when I glanced over at my notifications in steemstats.com to see a few votes, I took a peek and HOLY BALLS! @hf1 dropped a 100% upvote on my competition making it worth over $110. That means that all anyone has to do is upvote that post for a chance to win over $55 and counting.
I've heard rumours of whales testing their votes on random posts but I like to think this was intentional, it was to help out the community and give something back. Something I can share with someone else too.
You can find the competition here: https://steemit.com/competition/@stormriderstudio/daily-competition-on-wednesdays-we-wear-pink Just upvote to enter.
So that inspired me to write the blog post, even though I'm in pain, even though I'm tired, even though all I want to do is curl up in a ball and pass out for a week. Bless you @hf1, bless you.
