Life Changes

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

Recently I was reading about the life cycle of butterflies and I think it’s very interesting. Butterflies go through four stages, first a female butterfly has to lay eggs on a leaf, then during the next stage a caterpillar is born, its job is to eat as much a it can. After the caterpillar is fully grown it will turn into a pupa, or a chrysalis that will be protected inside a cocoon of silk. This transition stage can last weeks, months or even years, during this period it may seem like nothing is happening, but huge and important changes are occurring inside.

Lastly, during the fourth stage the chrysalis opens and soon an adult butterfly comes out with long legs and colorful wings.

Alright, that was my short and very concise biology class. *

You are probably wondering why I talked about that and it’s because I like the fact that humans go through a very similar process. Of course, we don’t transition inside a cocoon, but all of us evolve several times in our lives. Some changes are obvious, like going from baby to teenager and then adult, however we also have to experience some not so obvious life changes that can be really stressful and challenging.

When I was little I used to believe changes were bad. I wanted things to stay just the way they were, and I would be legitimately scared when something changed too drastically. But at the same time (just like any other girl), I wanted to grow up and live my life. Needless to say, I didn’t know that would change everything.

Growing up comes with a lot of challenges, you have to face all sorts of situations. First, you have to deal with high school, popular kids that think you are beneath them (in my case), puberty, pimples and more. Then, as you become older you are supposed to start behaving like an adult and you have to make big and important decisions that can change your life completely.

Most of the time we are not prepared for those changes and I think maybe it would be better if we actually prepared ourselves inside a cocoon. But the thing is, even after a butterfly is ready to come out to the world, it still has to face numerous challenges outside and some of those challenges can get her killed.

I believe it’s the same with humans, we try to be ready and deal with every situation the best we can but some problems can caught us off guard. Of course, not all changes are bad, or perhaps they look like something bad in the beginning but they end up being great.

I’m saying all this because over the years I have learned that everything happens for a reason, and instead of complaining about life getting difficult we have to continue living and working towards our goals.

Just like butterflies, we go through a life cycle that doesn’t stop, we need to evolve, grow and sometimes even reinvent ourselves.

We can’t fight changes, they are inevitable, although we can try to enjoy them despite all the circumstances and see them as a new opportunity.

Thank you for reading!
