In Norway Days Can Last Forever During The Summer

in #blog7 years ago

Depending on how far north you are days take longer and longer. Here you see the small presence of the sun indicated by the red tint on the horizon

Looks so peaceful!

Oh it was, except for maybe the mosquitos

Longer day but sun is on the horizon? not over head?

If you look at the horizon you see a red glow, only near that part. That means the sun is underneath that part

It always stay there? never come up?

This can happen during the winter if you are on the north pole yes

Nice shot. What time did you take the photo? Your caption made me wonder. :)

So this was shot at 21:22:14 13 August 2016, so about one month after the longest day and this is shorty after sunset. The sky would still be quite light for 2 hours and I was not even that far up north

Does the sun rise later than usual too? 🤔

It comes up earlier!

Do you remember what time it was when you took the photo? Was it supposed to be dark instead of looking like sunset? Least you can admire the beautiful sky colours for longer :D

I am quoting a similar question here:

"So this was shot at 21:22:14 13 August 2016, so about one month after the longest day and this is shorty after sunset. The sky would still be quite light for 2 hours and I was not even that far up north"

You never fade to amaze us my master @juliank!

Haha, you are to kind

someday, but for now I sure am enjoying your

mountains, reflections and grandeur :-)
Thank you for showing us all @juliank
👍👍

Thank you for your wonderful words @shasta

But what about wintertime? 😋

Then it is reversed. However, they do have northern light ;)

Yeah, good point! 😀 I used to have a colleague from Northern Sweden, and she was telling me once how many of her friends (in their early 20s) have committed suicide during wintertime because of depression.

P.S. I forgot to tell you that the picture is nice ;)

Wow that sounds so horrible. I can imagine the prolonged darkness can be the tipping point when you are already in a dark place

Is there any place where there is always night ?

It depends which time of the year it is. During the summer on the North Pole there is always still a bit of light, while during the same time on the South Pole it basically dark 24 hours. This switches during the winter

And during the eclipse it is dark even though it is for short duration ! I wonder what happens outside solar system.

nice pic upvote and resteem
