*"Why am I not earning?" *

Well, you have to be a hero. A Hero of Engagement. Unless you have someone you know that will support your posts directly, then you will not easily earn unless you engage with the community.

First of all, the feed goes very fast. There's only a few people that go to the recently created posts. And only a few people who will see your post. Also, there's only a few people who will click on it and read it, moreover - upvote it. Why? There's lots of users, thousands. You have to build an organic following to be sure someone will appreciate your work or your post and give you an upvote for it.

Yes, there are curators that actively look for amazing content but they tend to be very picky of what they reward, over limited topics too. Believe me, I'm a curator myself. There are tons of posts we ignore as a curator because what we aim to find are those hidden gems of a post. Unless all your posts are shining diamonds then don't expect earnings if you do not engage.

How Does Engagement Work?

You just have to be talkative. Type words on comments, make it long and relevant. Type in things on chat, be it Steemit.chat or Discord or Facebook Messenger Groups. Type things in Social Media and connect with other Steemians there. Type and talk, that's how you engage. That’s how you grow. That’s how you earn.

Tips I can Provide:

Here are some tips that may be helpful for engagement, it’s not a guarantee though that it will work for everyone but I think it can help a lot for a number of people:

• Do not comment generic messages, e.g: ‘Good job’, ‘Nice work’, ‘Nice read’, etc.

These things are somehow great since they are still comments and they count and they sound nice, but they don’t really engage the author. If you’re going to comment, make the most out of it. Make it relevant, in-depth, and meaningful – comments count too, you also earn from if they receive an upvote.

• Reply when they reply.

This will keep the conversation alive and flowing. If this happens on your post, it’s a good publicity. Posts with lots of comments that engage the user is an eye candy for some upvoters.

• Be kind and polite – always.

Even if you’re being faced with negativity – cancel it out. Work on your etiquette and kindness. A good person, in general, has many supporters that genuinely care.

• Expand your vocabulary

This helps out a lot especially if English is not your mother tongue – however, do not restrict yourself in using one language only – there are others who share the same local language as you and there are times your local-languaged post may earn more than your English post

• Add eye-candies to your comments

A few gifs and images here and there will help your comment be more visible and attractive (just make sure you use the right photos/gifs). Just don’t overdo it, and don’t spam annoying iamges/gifs.

• Never spam.

Unsolicited begging is spam. Repeating the same comments again and again is spam.
