A low sodium comfort food - Pizza

Pizza is my all time favorite food. I could eat it every day for every meal. Once we had to start eating a low sodium diet, I thought for sure my pizza eating days were over. Fortunately, I found an easy and low sodium recipe for pizza crust.

Pizza Crust Ingredients

2 tsp active dry yeast or pizza dough yeast

3 1/2 C bread flour

1/4 C corn meal

1 1/2 C water

2 tsp honey

2 tbs olive oil

2 tbs your favorite salt free seasoning. I use Mrs. Dash Tomato and Basil seasoning

Directions

  1. Place ingredients in bread machine and process on the dough cycle.

  2. The dough can make either two 12 inch pizzas or two 10 inch thick crust pizzas. Form the pizzas, then lightly oil with olive oil and garlic powder.

  3. Bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned.

  4. Top and return to oven until cheese is melted and crust is brown (15 min).

Now your pizza sauce and cheese can add a lot salt to the pizza. Be light handed when adding the cheese or skip it all together. Below is a low sodium pizza sauce recipe.

Ingredients

1 can no salt added tomato paste

1/2 can no salt added tomato sauce

1 tbs balsamic vinegar

1/2 tbs oregano

1/2 tbs basil

1 tsp garlic powder

Mix in a pan and heat on low.
