ICO or IRO

in #blog8 years ago

Steem, Waves, Opair, etc.

I'm sure a fair amount of you have been a part of some sort of Initial Coin Offering (ICO) sometime, and for those of you who haven't its basically just a period of time when you can purchase a crypto for a specific rate before it is exchanged publicly.

IRO

This concept of Initial Return Offering (IRO) is what constantly seems to baffle me. This isn't an official term nor is it what is offered but people who are first timers or paranoid often tend to treat ICOs like this. The concept basically applies to anyone who invests in a coin and immediately without any sort of patience requires some sort of positive return. Either it is lost on them that all investments should be treated as losses until otherwise proven or that investing is a RISK. I can't even begin to understand the amount of times I have joined a new ICO's slack channel and there are people in the channel whining about their money they are losing out on.

"If you can't afford to lose it then don't invest it. I don't care how positive you are that X coin will grow. Just don't do it."

That concept is often overlooked for the thought of quick profits and it's not good. It is bad for the developers that have to deal with such people and for the people them selves because they bring on FUD, negative vibes to all others trying to be supportive, and worst of all possible issues such as refund requests. These types of things can make or break some devs, projects, and other investors due to the stress that is put on them. This all snowballs into doubt from all sides and can cause worse issues than a missed deadline.

Think twice before you invest

I've seen the whole "Weak hands will fall and that just benefits us real investors" and while it is true it can put some unnecessary stress to the devs to see this fallout on something they may be very passionate about. If the .005 BTC is something you can't afford to lose then just DON'T do it.

ICO not IRO

Please don't let IRO become a thing whether you plan to immediately sell or not. I'm not sure how many of you feel this way or are against said ways. Let me know what you think.
