Why I Have A Daily Writing Theme for My Blog - Question from @mitneb

in #blog6 years ago

@mitneb - I love how you are writing on a set theme every day. What a great idea for structuring your articles, and keeping yourself motivated. Have you written an article about that technique? It would make a great subject. Please give me a link if/when you do.

Thank you @mitneb for asking about my daily posts! When I joined Steemit, I wanted to make sure I stayed motivated to write every day, so I came up with a daily theme. I used to blog with some other moms, years ago and we had a daily post about different topics, so I guess that is where it came from!

Write about your interests!

I love having a plan for my writing because that means I do not have to come up with something off the top of my head or go out looking for something to post about. I know when I get up on Mondays that I will be posting about something I make, such as a quilt. I have an ongoing list in a Word document on my computer with ideas of posts in case I come to a day and cannot think of an idea. Most of the time, I have something to say about each topic. That is why I chose each topic, because they are my interests.

When I was trying to think of topics for each day, I sat down and wrote out themes that I am interested in. For example: homeschool, Panama, sewing, quilting, recipes, deals. Then I tried to see if I could put any categories together (like sewing and quilting). I then tried to come up with a word that started with the same letter as a day of the week – some rejects were Workout Wednesday, Works for Me Wednesday, Mad Monday, Family Friday. I just played around with it until I came up with something that I thought would work…and it has worked out well as I have only missed three days of blogging since I started.

If something does not work, change it!

After creating each daily theme, I have been able to see what works and what does not. I thought that sharing some Spanish lessons would be good, since I am a former Spanish teacher. However, I am finding that “Tuesday Tarea” is hard for me and not getting much love. I will probably be changing to a different theme in the future.

Some days it is hard to figure out what I want to write about in that topic. If that is the case and I can think of something else to post about, I will just change over. For example, last week, I was unable to come up with a “Tuesday Tarea” topic, but I knew that a “Tree Tuesday” category was out there, so I switched over.

Start small!

People like it when they know what to expect from you. If you cannot think of something you want to write about daily every week, then start with writing about it every Monday, for example. Then your followers will know that every Monday, they can come to your blog and learn about that interest. I enjoy visiting @crosheille on her blog every Monday for her Needlework Monday posts.

Join in on the daily themes!

If you are interested in joining any of my daily themes, feel free! You are welcome to do like I do and use the name as the tag for the post. Maybe you have other interests and it gives you an idea of how to take the titles I have made and make them your own. That is what is so great about Steemit – you can do what works for you!

I appreciate you stopping by and hope this answers your question about my daily theme!

I had noticed you did that and I have tried to think of what I could share each day or every other day. I'm working part time and it is hard to post some days! Anyway, I didn't know you used to be a Spanish teacher! I liked your "Tuesday Tarea” posts! I am working on getting my Spanish up to the point it was at the end of college and then I want to improve on that! There are so many people that speak Spanish in Texas and I just want to be bilingual!

Thanks for stopping by! I was a Spanish teacher for 6 years - in Garland for 3 and Allen for 3! :) Spanish is a fun language, but it does take work to get it down. :) This week has been so crazy, I haven't been very good at keeping up with my daily posts. Maybe next week will be better. ;)

Oh my gosh @panamamama, I live in Allen! Had I already told you that?

I didn't know that! I was thinking Plano for some reason! Pretty cool! I used to live in Allen for a few years before we moved to Fairview where we lived until we were trying to sell that house and moved to Princeton before moving here! Such a small world. My friend @superinvisible is from Princeton and there now. You guys could have a steemit meetup! :) I graduated from Allen High School in 1996. I taught at Curtis from 2000-2002 and then one year (2003) at the freshman center (a year of torture). ;) So cool to see another Allenite on here!!!!

I love the structure of this and (for months) I've had ideas about how to do it on my own blog. (I used to do something similar on my website.) But these days I'm lucky to get a post of any kind up.

I'm working to get more organized (unfortunately The Weasel and our pets refuse to learn how to cook.) I'm starting to wonder if clearing my schedule of some of my "jobs" isn't the answer. We'll see how it goes. Meanwhile, you remain my inspiration!

Survival cooking. ;) Rotisserie chicken and raw carrots and toast. I mean, not that that's what we had for dinner or anything after a crazy day in traffic with tons of people in the hot, sweaty town of David (an hour from us). ;) You see, Mother's Day is celebrated on Friday and apparently the whole country of Panama was out shopping for gifts today since no one goes anywhere but to Mama's house on Friday. It was crazytown.
So today is postless from me. ;) I was trying to think all day of what I could post about, but it just didn't happen...and that's okay! :)

Tonight's supper. Fried chicken fingers (that had marinated in buttermilk so long I was astonished they were still worth having) and chocolate chocolate chip gelato. I don't care if it kills me, they were both delicious.

That sounds delightful! YUM! I would totally have eaten that as well. I'm sure it was delicious. I hate spending more time cooking than it takes for us to eat. I tend to throw together things with 3 or less steps... ;) My pastor's wife in Mexico City taught me that. I need the gelato recipe...if it's easy! :)

Awesome! Good advice! Thanks for sharing your Steemit journey with us! Tips and Tricks always welcome!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. :)

I really like the reoccuring themes, especially the #gratefulvibes posts. I have limited time to post and curate, so it keeps me consistant. @ironshield

Yes, grateful vibes has been really nice! :) I enjoy reading all of those.

Thats a good idea. A theme can help focus your mind. When you first start out on steemit it can be hard to figure out what to write. A simple theme can really help some get started.

Yes I agree! :) Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Good advice, @apanamamama! Starting small and writing about things that interest you are important. Everyone eventually finds their own niche.

Yes, thanks for stopping by! It has worked for me so far. I enjoy thinking of things to post about. ;)

The daily theme is a great way to stay connected. It definitely takes commitment! (As I come off a recent hiatus.) :)

I have had a really busy week and am just trying to get the replies taken care of today instead of doing another post. ;)

great ideas I may join in sometimes. You are very creative with the different day ideas.

That would be great! You're welcome to join in - drop me a link if you do and I'll be sure to check it out. :)

I certainly will... so you know I am a procrastinator.. you are the first person I have told in here..lol

You said it all @apanamamama we should stick to what we know

Yep! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! :)
