Bittrex has been accused of acting as an unregistered broker, national securities exchange, and clearing house.

But Bittrex said they have always operated within the law, adding that the lawsuit "puts the United States at a significant disadvantage in the development of blockchain technology."

Bittrex also claims that the legal action is part of a "larger crusade to drive cryptocurrencies out of the United States."
