U.S. Secretary of State William Blinken arrived in the Chinese capital of Beijing on the morning of August 18 and is expected to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang in the afternoon.
During the meeting, it is expected that opinions will be exchanged on the U.S.-China relationship as well as the situation in Taiwan and Ukraine, and the focus will be on whether the deterioration of bilateral relations can be halted.

On the morning of August 18, Secretary of State William J. Blinken arrived at the airport in Beijing, the capital of the United States, for his first visit to China as a member of the U.S. Biden administration.

Secretary Blinken is scheduled to stay in China for two days until the 19th, and is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Qin Gang in the afternoon of the 18th, although the U.S. and Chinese governments have not disclosed the detailed schedule.

During the meeting, it is expected that opinions will be exchanged on the U.S.-China relationship as well as the situation in Taiwan and Ukraine, etc. The U.S. hopes to establish a communication channel between the U.S. and China to activate dialogue at various levels, including security, and prevent unintended events from escalating into conflict, as China's military activities around Taiwan are becoming more active. China, on the other hand, hopes to prevent unintended events from escalating into clashes.

China, on the other hand, is nervous that the U.S. is increasing its involvement in Taiwan while saying that its "one China" policy will not change, and it is believed that the visit will directly convey its stance of not giving an inch over Taiwan.

Secretary Blinken's visit to China was originally scheduled for February of this year, but was postponed due to the further deterioration of U.S.-China relations caused by a Chinese balloon flying over the U.S. skies.

Secretary Blinken is expected to meet with Politburo member Wang Yi, who is in charge of foreign affairs, and is also believed to be making arrangements for a meeting with President Xi Jinping.
