If you're ever in Atlanta Georgia, visit the Center For Civil And Human Rights.

I visited the Center and soaked in the whole experience. Growing up you learn about slavery and other injustices of African Americans in text books but I've been out of school sometime so my history was a little rusty.

I can tell you that seeing this museum in person is "Powerful" and a must see.

Out Of My Comfort Zone

I knew before going that I would see lots of things that would: make me mad, sad, uncomfortable and even things that would piss me off and I was right...



Waiting Room For Colored Only - There was no McDonald's on every corner back then if you wanted food you probably stopped at a restaurant and if you happened to be "Colored" this sign was for you.




Rose Parks / Claudette Colvin
Montgomery Bus Boycott - Rosa Parks is famously know as the women who refused to give up her seat to a white person. What I didn't know was that Claudette Colvin at age 15 was actually the 1st person who refused to give up her seat. Their sacrifices lead to the protest against segregation.



The Martyred Children - Four young girls were killed by a bombing at Birmingham’s Sixteenth Street Baptist Church during a Sunday morning mass. Three of the victims were 14 years-old and one was 11-years-old. The words you see are those of MLK as he spoke at the funeral service for 3 of the girls.

As I snapped this picture, Dr. Martin Luther Kings voice is coming thru the speakers. His voice saddened but VERY POWERFUL. To hear it yourself click here

This was not intended to be a history lesson but I learned alot.




Atlanta's First African American Patrolman - Feb 25, 1948

Going from room to room, exhibit after exhibit seeing (and hearing) nothing but HATE would affect anyone and I'm no different.


White Men Only - Lord forbid you had to use the bathroom.

There was one exhibit in particular where you sit at a bar and put on headphones. The "sounds" you hear are reflective of the time and you are being strongly "encouraged" to leave. Now I know what you saying "it's just words" BUT after about 30 seconds of "niggers" and bottles thrown I had enough. I even saw white people walking away tearing up and shaking their heads in disbelief.

Coretta Scott King - If you give your life to a cause in which you believe, and if it is right and just, and if your life comes to an end as a result of this, then your life could not have been spent in a more redemptive way. I think that is what my husband has done.
