The Bitfinex Hack was Published on Steemit 3 weeks Before it Happened.

in #bitfinex8 years ago (edited)

This is too eerie. If this is in fact, legit, then we're going to get some MAJOR publicity over the coming weeks. The biggest hack of this year. 75m USD in damages, another domino in the house of bitcoin to fall over. Right under our noses.

"hacker" verified in earlier threads, supposedly of colombian descent.

Ties to anonymous, Isis (?) and freedom activism.

All the exif data in the images seems to be scrubbed...

Bitfinex statement:

We are investigating the breach to determine what happened, but we know that some of our users have had their bitcoins stolen. We are undertaking a review to determine which users have been affected by the breach. While we conduct this initial investigation and secure our environment, bitfinex.com will be taken down and the maintenance page will be left up.
The theft is being reported to—and we are co-operating with—law enforcement.

Have you checked the comments of the original post ?

I'm not sure what they stand for, but the OP did an introduceyourself in an earlier topic. With images.

Hey, this is his bittrex address. We have a new lead.

It might not even be the same registrant, this deserves a look over though..

He's got some really weird stuff posted... ...

Looks like he's from Columbia. More precisely Teorema, Catatumbo. His pictures are scrubbed clean of exif data. This is really suspicious.

His mom seems like a nice lady.

Posting about this in polonibox gets you an instant ban. Think poloniex might have already gotten hacked? Holy crap.

There's some real CSI stuff going on in these comments here.
Since I don't watch TV anymore being on steemit all the time, I'll keep a close watch on this post and eager to see the development. LOL.

Zoom in 200 times and enlarge the pixel :D

Holy fuck. This guy made a post about ISIS YESTERDAY. I think this hack might be ISIS related.

https://steemit.com/news/@jeison/6jx1ut-islamic-state-its-origin-beliefs-and-the-reason-for-their-attacks

I'm not sure what it means or how it's related. odd.

He just named exchanges, though... I don't know if you can read anything into it.

People have opened and closed trades on stranger indicators.. if anything it'll be a goose hunt to amuse us inbetween the despair and panic.

I think this is either misinformation or coincidence. Someone who is planning a big hacking , will not leave personal data. Could be this guy covering their own tracks.

What if the hacker took over the identity of an innocent user that just lost his password. Steemit was hacked before, right?

It just seems too odd. It's either pure chance, or it's really damn fishy...

pretty darn crazy if this were true. I'd like to ask him some questions!
