South Korean intelligence accused North Korea of cyberattack on the largest cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb. It’s reported that the thieves seized cryptocurrency in the amount of $6.9 million.

The attack was carried out in February and the Intelligence Agency of the DPRK informed the prosecutor that Bithumb personal computers have been hacked and funds disappeared. Moreover they got access to confidential information for more than 30,000 users.

Officers of South Korean intelligence are convinced that behind this criminal action are standing hackers from North Korea. It is known that not so long ago the Coinis exchange was attacked in similar way. It’s quite possible that all these crimes are made by the same persons.

Perhaps Pyongyang is trying to acquire significant cryptocurrency sums to try and mitigate the negative consequences due to sanctions that have affected North Korea.

Obviously, the politicians of this country are seriously interested in controlling cryptoexchange exchanges, because they give a significant advantage on the macroeconomic field and provide an opportunity to influence South Korea in financial sector.
